Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend

[from 750] drinking very well right now (2018). Indescribable? Taste from some other axis of space-time-sense? Custard, melon, pineapple, diesel, bandaid, orange spice. . . — 7 years ago

Axis Mundi Tannat 2002

Pretty deep ruby /garnet core , lightening though not a lot at the edges , very big thick slow legs. Certainly secondary aromas now, ceder , licorice , blackcurrant with a meaty undertone , quite interesting and complex . In the mouth more of the blackcurrant fruit, minty notes also , then the tannins kick in. They are ripe but omnipresent , almost a cocoa powder finish with the drying tannins. The mid palate is slightly hollow and lacks a bit of charm. This is a big wine though the acidity is balancing I'm not sure those tannins will ever be resolved. It doesn't come as 'new world' you would think it could be a left bank Bordeaux , a St Estephe perhaps, though the sweeter tannins and slightly alcoholic kick give away another origin. Coming back to this , I think there will probably be limited upside , the wine appear too hollow to really improve. So drink now and over the next 3 years . — 8 years ago

Paired this with some Axis quinoa stir fry. Absolutely awesome. A little bit of earth with cherry and lots of red fruit. Not too acidic. I hope I run into this bottle again. — 7 years ago

Trout Gulch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

This is on another flavor axis from many CA pinots we have enjoyed lately - a balance of black cherry and cola (the bark complexities - not the syrup). As wonderful as it is now, suspect it will be a mind blower down the road. — 8 years ago

Completamente vale la pena. Hits the sweet spot of quality on the y axis and price on the x axis. Seems like anything blended with a garnacha floats the boat ⛵️ . Idk how I haven't seen this at TJ's yet — 9 years ago

Valais Mundi

Electus Red Blend 2011

A big expensive Swiss wine, marketed as the best wine out of Valais, the most popular AOC in Switzerland. Price (approx 190$) is excessive for the wine though it is a good wine. At this price tag there are far better wines from more renown wine regions. This blend of 7 varieties is interesting, the color is deep black, the nose has notes of orange peals, red berries, red current, spices and cherries, full body rich with firm tannins, complex and interesting with a long finished. My score 89, drink to 2025 — 10 years ago

Third of the reds in our South African blind tasting. Limited production by Noble Hill in South Africa. Made up of 100% Mourvedre and aged in French oak for 36 months. Only 372 bottles produced.

Luckily this showed a lot better than last time, prior bottle was corked. That was at your place
@David L . Dark garnet red. Lovely and dark nose with dark cocoa, meatiness, a touch woody and toasty. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus bodied. Rounded with dark berries on the palate, purple flowers, spices, chalk, dark cocoa and almost a little coconut. A touch sweet but not overpowering. Long and lingering finish. Excellent bottling by Noble Hill. Drink till 2024.
