Another 2005. Magnum kept the oxygen in check, but reveals it still quite young. Magnolia in a warm breeze. Cherry blossom. Pine, chainsaw heated. Coffee rye. Violets, both fresh and dry, on this floral led bouquet. Rich blackberry in a medium-verging-heavy mouthfeel rich black currant, ripe cassis, sloes, rosemary, sweet mocha tobacco, black cherry and smoke. Relentlessly rich.

A great bottle of wine from a less than idéal year. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot, 4% cabernet franc. Deep, dark ruby colouring, smoky tobacco aromas, fruity - red / black berry, cherry and leather on the tongue. My newest edition to the "cave", truly enjoyed this 2006 vintage.

Finally get to open this 2008 #chateauguadet on our 11th wedding anniversary. Even an hour after opening it wasn’t ready so after 24 hours it’s lovely - quintessential #stemilion, strongly subtle cassis and forest floor on the nose. Fine well-integrated tannins mid-taste, liberal acidity in the palate and a finish as long as a serpent’s tail. It’s kinda of cool this 175 year old estate was restored to #grandcruclasse status in 2008. — 5 years ago
