A compelling, historical and sophisticated Chianti Classico Riserva dedicated to the Mazzei’s notable ancestor, Ser Lapo, known as the “father” of the Chianti wine appellation in Tuscany. The V.2016 also had a composition blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. This wine as a “Riserva” under the Chianti Classic Classification system has to be aged a min of 24 months in barrels including 3 months in the bottle prior release.
Decanted for 35 Mins served as an opener of an Italian-inspired dishes, made it a perfect amplifier to appreciate the balance of freshness, richness and complexity. The acidity remains at the perfect point and the red cherries and fig notes are quite palpable from the very beginning, the wine dances in your palate, it jumps on flavor of cherry, tobacco leaf, toasted spices and fresh herbs notes come out alive from the glass, as an overall this wine dances in your mouth with great harmony of the juiciness and integrated medium plus tannins.
The label is another great release from Mazzei family, which is one of Tuscany’s oldest wine dynasties (25 winemaking generations for 600+ years. The script at the top of this wine label is a reproduction of a historic correspondence of a document dated December 16, 1398 that addresses this “father” of Chianti.
Simply lovely, cheers! — 4 months ago
50/50 sangiovese grosso and merlot. Full bodied with dark fruit, some touches of coffee with bitterness and acidity but great structure with earthiness and great tannins with a long finish. Definitely something to try again. — 5 months ago
Pretty tasty. Roses, leather, dark chocolate cherries, forest, some pepper. Overall I like it. — 5 months ago
bit shy, needed some time in the decanter - translucent ruby colored, lots of violets and spice, sour cherry and bing cherry, rhubarb, tar, sweet soil, really complex on nose, med weight w/firm tannic grip, flavors from nose on mid palate, nice finish. paired with smoked ribs and it really worked - Father's day treat. i have another of these, believe this is in the pocket right now. *more Barbaresco than Brunello — 2 months ago
Dayum, Italian white wines nearly always over-deliver for the price. Touch of white flowers, orchard fruit, lovely balance, paired handsomely with precisely-fried calamari. #antinoriwines have been ever reliable for me. — 3 months ago
Located in the heart of Umbria, pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruit, citrus and honey floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and peach with citrus and nutty notes. Good acidity, balance and structure, medium+ finish ending with salty mineral character. Nice! — 4 months ago

Wonderful Italian wine with dinner — 6 months ago
Intense on the nose but evens out with your meal. Medium mouth feel very balanced, noticeable pepper and red fruit, woody undergrowth or old pinball cabinet. — 2 months ago
May 2025: PnP ready, classic Chianti expression, red fruit, integrated enough tannins. — 7 months ago
Gorgeous bottle of ruby red shades and intense aromatics featuring vanilla, spices, rose petals, and nuts. Quite complex. Great medium+ body and strong acidic structure but with a refined weight and balance, it’s not overpowering but has a lot of character. Really good lingering finish. — 5 months ago
