Excellent wine, elegant but strong taste with a light finish.
Little of rhubarb and berries, almost no tanin.
Very easy and light to drink. Wow!
The Bovio 2013 regular would have been rougher and stronger.

So good! Kind of orange wine. Center is orange color. Slight oak. A bit sweet, slight tannic and spices from grape skin. Balanced sweetness and sourness. First one of orange wine I feel good. Marmalade. Vigna rocca albana secco 21 @3400, Dmar JH, 231008-231021 — 8 months ago

Vigna d'la Roul Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

Medium deep ruby , quite young looking . Some dry , wood spice at first then raspberry, red cherry . Quite sweet on the palate , cherry , touch of anis and mint . Quite rich and generous , firm gritty tannins , touch of alcohol warmth noticeable . Good balanced acidity . Showing pretty young still , s bit rustic in style , showing the warmth of the vintage . Needs a bit more time , better in 3–5 years and will last well a further 5-8 — 10 months ago

BG barbaresco leads the pack. Round, rich, earthy, and full bodied. Great balance for the grape. Black cherry, cedar, and dried fruit. While not a top vintage, a benchmark that’s in its drinking window. St. Stephen will remain... — 5 years ago

Vigna Rionda Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Popped and poured, the 2019 “Vigna Rionda” pours a brilliant garnet color with medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with fresh red cherries, forest strawberries, tar, some red flowers, some light baking spices. One the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is dry and finishes with a flourish. A baby and yet this is drinking well right now (as many 2019’s are). Drink now with patience so you can enjoy the ride but I expect this will drink well for the next 15+ years. — 7 months ago

Vigna Scarrone Barbera d'Alba 2012

This was showing a gorgeous and intense bouquet of ripe raspberry, cherry, cinnamon and mixed spices with mint, cedar and dark chocolate. On the palate, it was rich, literally packed with dark red fruit, yet remaining vibrant and lively. Licorice, balsamic tones and savory herbs were just a few of the constantly evolving flavors here. The finish was long with staying bitter cherry, dark-dark chocolate and spice tones. This is simply stunning juice — 9 years ago

Cavallotto

Vigna Scot Dolcetto d'Alba 2012

Smooth, drinkable - would pair well with anything. Had with a wonderful Italian meal.

Ruby wine club notes: The Cavallotto family claims sole ownership of the beautiful Bricco Boschis cru in the Castiglione Falletto district (also home to Azelia), where they have been growing Nebbiolo since 1929 and bottling their own wine since 1948. These richly structured wines place emphasis on elegance and longevity, attributable to excellent vineyards in the Bricco Boschis and Vignolo crus and traditional long maturation periods in large Slovenian-oak casks. After meeting and tasting with Winemaker and owner Alfio Cavallotto, I was incredibly impressed with his wines and thought his Dolcetto was one of the best I had tasted all year. This wine offers the crunchy red fruits for which Dolcetto is known for, with an element of licorice, and sandalwood. This Impressive effort will pair with just about anything, but it is highly fashionable with pasta and grilled meats.

Guido Porro

Vigna S. Caterina Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

The “V.S. Caterina” is a single vineyard located in the southern most portion of the Lazzarito MGA, in Serralunga d’Alba. This is considered a monopole of sorts since Guido Porro is the sole producer from this vineyard. Geographically speaking, the holdings are ideal with great southwestern exposure, located close to the village of Lazzarito and right next to Vietti’s holdings.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a period that lasted a couple of hours. The 2015 pours a bright, reflective ruby color with some hits of garnet towards the rim and a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, ripe cherries, strawberries, loads of roses, dried green herbs, and gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. Superb balance. I didn’t buy many 2015’s from Barolo or Barbaresco because I didn’t really like them on release and they didn’t seem to have structure to carry the day. And while the latter may yet be true for extended aging, the 2015’s have been strutting their stuff over the last year, showing off all their solar glory. Drink now and over the next 7 years with ease.

Vigna Martina Barbera d'Alba 2016

Popped and poured; consumed over a few hours. The 2016 Barbera "Vigna Martina" is deep, dark ruby with an almost impenetrable core. More than ample in the fruit department with all the dark berries. However, it's got enough of the non-fruits: the inorganic earth, purple flowers, some herbs and spices, to leave one in no doubt of its origin. This is certainly one of the more polished versions of Barbera. As for longevity, even at 6 years post vintage, this seemed fairly primary. That being said and based off my experiences with Barbera in this category, I expect the secondary characteristics of leather to begin emerging in the next couple of years. Tasty now and should continue to reward through 2030. — 8 months ago

Nice wine, but probably better a few years ago. At this point the acid is peaking a bit more than ideal (and that’s from someone who really likes acid). But still a great reminder of why well aged brunello is quite delicious and a great food pairing. — 4 years ago

Barbacarlo Oltrepo Pavese Red Blend 1994

— 6 years ago
