A Syrah-like Mondeuse. Aromatic, purplely (yes, purplely) with ripe fruit, though it’s the texture that’s earning it high marks. Someone on an earlier thread described it as “velour” (not in the matching-juicy-sweatsuit-circa-2004-tacky way, but in a blanket you want to wrap yourself in at the end of a satisfying day sort of way). A solid wine with which to toast to the happy occasion of having an old New York friend in town. Can’t remember the vintage. Matt? — 5 years ago
Rich aroma with dry taste. I am enjoying, and price was reasonable. — 6 years ago
Just balanced thread of Shiraz pepper and velvet consistency on the tongue. Will age very well, but very good now also. — 7 years ago
More fruit forward than expected and kept waiting for tannins to kick in. Solid cherry and dark berry with slight vanilla taste. Buying another well valued bottle (only $8 at TJs) and letting it age a year or more. — 4 years ago
Such an intense bottle for a fun little rosé (quar wine 5? I’ve lost count) have bought this many times — 4 years ago
Great fruit, finishes dry and smooth! — 7 years ago
An easy to drink dry Riesling with a smooth finish. Well balanced light citrus notes with a hint of kiwi and lychee. More on the sweeter side of dry Riesling, but not a sweet Riesling. Loved it. — 8 years ago
Golden yellow with pale reflections at the rim. Nose of lemon/pear skin/hints of pineapple, caramel, nuts, and a thread of mint and a nice mineral/flint tone. The palate possesses a dizzying array of flavors. The same fruits and caramel and nuttiness play out and are joined by a lemon oil, and light straw note. Big and broad and at the same time precise and delineated. This was fantastic, and firing on all cylinders. Gained depth as the hours unfolded. — 4 years ago
Lovey pale gold color with a hint of leaf green. Medium body, Pear and honeysuckle on the nose. Pit fruit, floral notes, & mild juicy acidity with subtle, unidentifiable minerality on the finish. (Grilled rubbed pork chops, cauliflower pearls, w/ truffle & asparagus cream sauce) — 6 years ago
Beautiful evening with a beautiful bottle of wine and a beautiful woman — 6 years ago
Count me in as a new vermouth fan. — 7 years ago

I’ve been itching to try Il Poggione’s 2015 Brunello since buying a case this time last year. I could count on one hand how many Brunellos I’ve had in the past, so this was exciting from the POV not just of this being a very highly rated wine, but from it being a new experience and foray into the world of Tuscany.
It has a translucent crimson robe, with aromas of dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, iron, beef blood and from somewhere an aromatic lift of lavender.
The palate is defined by vivacious acidity, mouthwatering tannin and a core of candied cherry, walnut, dark chocolate, espresso, all cut to a very savoury tune.
Very, very long life ahead. Would love to taste this alongside Produttori del Barbaresco’s 2016 Barbaresco in ten years’ time. — 3 years ago
