The Vineyard At Strawberry Ridge

Ridge Vineyards

Geyserville Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend 2017

Hedonistic with blackberry and violet perfume. This is just ripe with a fresh, tangy edge. So bright; such herbal nuance. Real finesse and verve. Impressive; drinking at peak. — 22 days ago

Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir 2020

I love these guys. Probably my favorite Oregon winery. I was a little worried about the 2020, and possibly these is a hint of smoke, but mostly delicious. Strawberry jam. No tannin. — 3 months ago

Three Valleys Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend 2019

2019. My wife and daughter sent a couple photos of the World Market wine selection for me to help pick something out for grilled steaks at my brother’s… a quick scan and seeing Ridge made the choice a no-brainer. Young, but paired great! — 4 months ago

Sea View Ridge Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Deep garnet color. Fragrant aromas and flavors of strawberries, cranberries, pomegranate, dark chocolate and black tea. Touch of earth and black pepper on the finish. Brimming with acidity. Tart and tangy. Light to medium bodied. Firm structure. Quite gritty but also elegant at the same time. Well made. — 8 months ago

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Tasted at Ridge. Dark scarlet. Opaque and brooding. Notes of black fruit, unsweetened chocolate, dark earth and some spice. Powerful impact in the mouth. Great mouthfeel. Chewy. Still young and primary. Needs a decade or two of slumber and will surely improve. — a month ago

Rivers-Marie

Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

9.3

My 2016 Rivers Marie Pinots are about gone…SummaOV is left. Occidental, Silver Eagle and SummaOV are always my favorites. I’m between a 93-94 here.

Great example of a Pinot that has a lot of power but plenty of balance. Deep black cherry colored in the glass but the aromatics are much more savory than expected. There’s an animalistic/feral quality to this initially (that I love) showing a smoked meat flair alongside dark blood orange and ripe black cherries. Commanding mouthfeel and great acidity. Continual back and forth of dark berry fruit and savory/herbal notes. The use of whole cluster is noticeable but it does a good job complimenting the wine (more high toned) and not taking center stage (as in, not overly stemmy/green). Wonderful lengthy finish. More brooding and savory than Silver Eagle but certainly not in the vein of a “cab lovers pinot” style. This was delicious and likely hangs in this window for at least 5+yrs.

Mazzoni Home Ranch Zinfandel Blend 2018

Perfectly contained and within itself. Ridge makes a lot of wines that, despite the Zinfandel, seems like they were made in Europe in the 70s. Which I count as a good thing. This wine was closed at first, but air is coaxing out gorgeous scent of black cherry and black raspberry, with summer-sun-warmed gravel. Very elegant in style, with the 40-something percent of Carignane lifting and tightening up the Zin. Just about a perfect accompaniment for my Portuguese chicken, rice, and chourico. This wine will age well for several more years. — 7 months ago

Reserve Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir 2018

At the vineyard for a vertical tasting with Kathleen, Jay and Josie Barton, Jenny Rhodes. "Yummy fruit". Much warmer and complex than the younger vintages. Nice full mouthfeel. — 2 months ago

Abbey Ridge Pinot Noir 2017

In a wide-bottom decanter for 3 hrs and it needed every minute. On the nose: black tea, wild strawberry, soft bubblegum. Amazing acidity and good density, stony minerality, bright red fruit leaning wild strawberry. Soft tannin on the long finish. I wanted to see how this was tomorrow, but it was such a hit that it disappeared fast: eminently drinkable; 12.8% ABV to boot. Wow. Better than I remember my last btl being, if still very primary. — 4 months ago
