It's time for some Merlot on this#MerlotThursday. Here's a nice one from Washington State.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, cedar, leather, earth, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, spices, coke and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate and fruity with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth and peppercorn.

Nice length with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a very tasty Merlot from Washington State. Rich and well balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel, spicy and tasty.

This 4 year old is drinking very nicely now. Good by itself or with food.

Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour of airtime.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Slightly bricked garnet red, compact rim, more red than purple.

Pretty bouquet - red cherry, dried herbal aromas, leather, tobacco, mineral.

The palate is harmonious. Integrated tannin, med plus acidity, dry, medium bodied. Showing a lot of red fruit character, animalistic, floral. Very classic Margaux-esque character.

This wine is at the perfect drinking spot. No need at all to wait. After a solid month of full bodied, extracted Napa Cab, this is a welcome reprieve! 90. — 9 years ago

No orange rim in the glas. The wine is dark red with a slight sign of its age. Leather on the nose, red fruits too. Tobacco, spice. The palate is phenomenal. Multidimensional. Long with an acid frame that goes for ever. Wide with fully integrated tannins made of velvet. Strawberry, blackberry, black currant. 1961. I comment it bearing in mind that it is an authentic bottle and many of us think of the contrary. Color is garnet rim, core almost ruby. Violet, raspberry, blackcurrant. So aromatic and the vivid if not juicy palate, feels like a Rioja crianza. Amazing depth of structure. Linear. Finish is broad. I'd say it's a 94 or 86, 89 if blind. Buy. — 12 years ago

Thinner and bright pink rim . Touch more red fruit and floral than the 2017, spicy, richer and riper also . Bit more riper and spicier darker fruits . Nice balancing acidity with quite gritty tannin . Quite long and detailed, well balanced on the finish . Richer than the 2017 or 2016 . Needs time but will be good . Leave 5 years then drink over the next 10 — 4 years ago

The color has faded to a translucent garnet with tawny colored rim. It has developed a complex bouquet of red cherry, dried fig, old leather, and tobacco as well as some barnyardy notes from Brett. This is one of my favorite producers in Rioja but I would prefer to consume this younger as although there is some nice fruit and acid, the tannins have really faded leaving little grip or bite. Classic blend of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo. — 9 years ago

Now this is a great wine. Dark in color, almost black with a purple rim.
Magnificent nose with blueberries, figs, plums, and herbs.
Sweet candies on the palate with blueberries, cranberry, dried figs, raisins, peppercorn.
Big, bold and beautiful with gorgeous legs.
Smooth and sexy long finish with bold tannins and ripen fruits.
Great right out of the bottle. After 2 hours in the decanter, chewy tannins on the finish. This is not my first, and definitely not my last. Very consistent from year to year.

It’s time for some Merlot on this#MerlotThursday.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

On the nose, plums, black currants, strawberries, sweet cherries, light cedar, licorice, vanilla, earth, herbs, chocolates, tobacco, spices, dark coffee and black pepper.

Medium plus in body and soft, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with currants, black plums, cherries, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth, light vegetables and herbs.

Medium finish with fine tannins, tangy raspberries and peppercorn.

This young Bordeaux from Saint Émilion is already showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel.

Tasty and interesting. Tangy and rich. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly.

Still young, but starting to drink nicely now. I am surprised of how approachable it is already. Still a little unbalanced, and needs another few years in the bottle to mature properly. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

This 2018 vintage is showing a lot of potential. A little lighter than the 2016 I had a couple of weeks ago.

A good quality wine that will age nicely in the next 15 to 20 years.

I paired it with Brie cheese and crackers.

A blend of 68% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Dark ruby all the way to the rim with the tears staining the glass. The nose is superb. Smoky, herbal, fruity red raspberries and this beautiful oak influences like vanilla custard. The palate is rich and full with the fruit showing first and the spices lingering long after the wine has gone. Beautiful, mature and yet probably has plenty of life left. — 10 years ago

Excellent bottle. The 01 is supposedly a better vintage but im not sure when it comes to this producer. Clear, day bright, garnet and orange brick like color, medium - concentration, orange/peach rim variation, slight sediment, low viscosity. Nose: sound, moderate intensity, stewed cherries/strawberries/raspberries, floral, spicy and lots of dill pickle and slight game. A mushroom note as well. Palate: dry, med- body, stewed plums over ripe cherries/strawberries, lilies, dill, vinegar, leather, button mushrooms, game, mulch with some cedar and coconut. Very complex. Med- tannins, medium alcohol, high acid, long finish. Between the 01 and the 98 its a tough choice of which one to put in the wine cooler to store. — 12 years ago
