Tanglewood Estate

Louis Jadot

Clos de Malte Santenay Chardonnay 2013

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our full cast of conductors include Andris Nelsons, Christoph Eschenbach, Keith Lockhart, Michael Tilson Thomas and John Williams. The beautiful and vocally talented Audra McDonald is our host for the evening along with Midori on violin and Yo-Yo Ma on cello.

This will likely be an evening to remember for some time. Program notes from the BSO "Reflecting the season-long theme, The Bernstein Centennial Celebration at Tanglewood will spotlight Bernstein's wide-ranging talents as a composer, his many gifts as a great interpreter and champion of other composers, and his role as an inspirer of a new generation of musicians and music lovers across the country and around the globe. The gala concert will feature a kaleidoscopic array of artists and ensembles from the worlds of classical music, film, and Broadway. The entire first half of the program is dedicated to selections from such brilliant Bernstein works as Candide, West Side Story, Mass, and Serenade. Music from the classical canon very dear to Bernstein's heart-selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn and music by Copland-plus a new work by John Williams, makes up a good portion of the program's second half; the finale of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony brings the program to a dramatic close."

We're revisiting some producer bottles from our late Spring France vacation earlier this year.

Nose of under-ripe tropical fruits, banana skin, light oak touch. Palate has yummy papaya, under-ripe peach, tangerine and sweet oak.

Photos of the Jadot (Update, Bouchard!) Chateau with its beautiful colored slate roof (to the left of the chateau its the conservatory where we had an epic lunch during our visit and they used to overwinter their citrus trees in here many, many years ago), pictures of the first room of the most amazing library cellar in all of Burgundy (the subsequent rooms are even more amazing) and our bottle of the evening.

24hr Update, sweet oak and fermented tropical fruits just stunning today, last bottle. ☹️

OMG Update: somehow I grabbed pics from our Bouchard visit, argh! The only Jadot thing in the collage is the bottle, so sorry!

"La Cueille" Bugey-Cerdon Sparkling Gamay Poulsard

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor David Newman is leading a live-to-picture performance of Leonard Bernstein’s score for “West Side Story”, originally directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
For live-to-picture productions, the orchestra performs the entire movie score in real time as the film unspools. (Vocals, dialogue and effects are isolated from the original music track.) The BSO installed very fancy and large LED screens on the perimeter of the Shed facing the Lawn, amazing!

Sparkling strawberry juice! So fun, love this wine. Please see my prior notes.

Vigna Gattera Barolo Nebbiolo 2000

After having the 2011 for lunch we decided to pull this out of starve and pop it at Tanglewood while watching the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

This 2000 was great, mellowed tannin but still a backbone with a rose nose.

I like the fact you like these type of wines too / there are a lot of tasters who raise the nose for these / they are so frivolous and a pure joy 👏

Thanks @Peter van den Besselaar I honestly believe this might be my favorite rosé I've tasted this year. We taste lots of them annually, and I'm now restraining myself to only take on the top bottles for our (generally) summer sippers.

Very strawberry, intense skin color extraction, very nice, in a year, I hope this is where the '16 is now. See my prior notes please.

La Chartreuse de Coutet Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

On the Lawn at Tanglewood tonight to listen to Keith Lockhart conducting the Boston Pops live score E.T. The Extraterrestrial along with the film tonight.

A little almond and apricot, excellent balance on the sweetness and acidity. A little too cold tonight on the Lawn (57°F), but still half a bottle for follow-up on better climate controlled conditions.

Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2014

Friday night Tanglewood wine with the BSO playing some Bernstein & Tchaikovsky, Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano!

So Celebrity Rosé... Two of the most favorite words ever uttered by Lyle Fass.

I always thought this had good Provence fruit (Thank you Perrin's) at a reasonable price. I'm in the dislike camp on the bottle shape, it doesn't fit any place well, except the recycle bin.

Taittinger

Prestige Rosé Brut Champagne

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading just one wonderful piece, MAHLER (Symphony No. 3), accompanied with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

We're revisiting some producer bottles from our late Spring France vacation earlier this year.

Pinot Noir biased on the nose and palate. Chalky limestone notes persist on the nose, followed by red fruits grated into the same mineral. Palate has bright red fruits with mineral dust, medium finish. Not as good as getting to enjoy it in the private tasting room at the Taittinger cellar, but close tonight.

Photos of one of the Comtes cellar areas, Methuselah's of Brut Reserve where some enthusiast has expressed their love of that wine and our bottle of the evening.

It's been a while since we checked in on this bottle. Tonight the acidity had finally dropped out and left us with the gorgeous reminants of pure Sancerre, yellow peach, covered in limestone dust. F'n WOTN!

Rua

Napa Valley Merlot Cabernet Franc 2010

Saturday night at Tanglewood with the BSO playing Britten, Adès & Beethoven, and Emanuel Ax on piano.

Fruit is decent, not much of a green note from the Merlot, certainly get the Cab. Franc on the nose. Ripe raspberry and smokey, not-too-sweet, stewed red fruit, evolving on the glass finally after two hours.
