The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus is pure and total seduction. Trotanoy and perhaps also Hosanna have traditionally been viewed as more exclusive Pomerols in the Moueix portfolio. The more time passes, the less I share that view. Sure, La Fleur-Pétrus does not have the mystique associated from a small single vineyard - as many Pomerols do - and yet there is no denying the elegance and class here. Bright red fleshed fruit, blood orange and exotic spice race across the palate, framed by silky, plush tannins that wrap it all together. La Fleur-Pétrus is fabulous. That's all there is to it. Cassis, iron, black cherry, m tannin, elegant and plush — 4 years ago
Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Very dark aromas of black cherry, cassis, blueberry and licorice. Then rather plush, sweet and full for Opus One, conveying a chocolatey ripeness to its dark berry flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins that build without going dry. This wine was broad and smooth from the outset. Today it's a generous mouthful but a bit clunky compared to some more recent vintages. This was reportedly the first vintage to include a significant percentage of Petit Verdot, and that may explain the wine's emphasis on black and blue fruits. Black cherry, red and black plum compote. Dried Italian herbs and potpourri aromatics. Very plush with integrated alcohol and fine grained tannins. — 6 years ago
Nice red. Fruity but not too sweet. — 4 years ago
Very ripe nose - almost port-like. Palate is full bodied, rich, round, plush, but without tannin or acid to balance out the opulent, sweet plummy fruit. Barossa-like. Very alcoholic. A big drink. — 4 years ago
Short decant...Deep plum, forest floor, black berry, cedar bark, a hint of peppercorn. Green bell pepper and eucalyptus are highlighted to. Plush on the palate with generous berry fruit, well balanced, stands up well with ribeye steak. Moderate finish. High quality fruit but a touch thin and shorter than desired.

Dark purplish ruby red and coats the glass. Plush nose with tons of spices, black fruits, dark spices, cinnamon and some vanilla. Rich palate with dark spices, black fruit and cassis. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2038. — 6 years ago
Licorice. Savory. Plush. Round. Elevage. Beautiful aging characteristics. — 6 years ago
inky purple; cassis, plum, baking chocolate, vanilla, menthol; plush, round, dark fruit, very long; full bodied, lovely textured tannins, 14.6% ABV; blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon this year which is heavier on the Merlot than in the past; beautiful with a fatty ribeye, crafted for immediate drinking pleasure, up there with my favorite Cali Merlots Pride and Duckhorn — 6 years ago

Still one of my favorite Mencias. Plush and round with wild red and blue fruits, cedar, and an earthy undertone. Like Gamay and Cab Franc had a baby. Needs ample air to show all of its charm. — 2 years ago
