Nice wine with dinner. No discernible heat, despite the 15.1% ABV. Thumbprint Cellars never disappoints. — 7 years ago

Papillon 2014 Orin Swift! Of coarse its amazing, its Orin Swift. I changed the rating four times!!!!!!!! Super opaque cab blend! Bouquet is raspberry tart! The initial palate is black cherry, blackberry, boysenberry bliss. There is a spice that kicks in along with a tart tang that tingles the tip of your tongue and numbs the roof of your palate. Oak and tobacco cone to play in the taste next along with a dark chocolate spice! Yummy!!!!! Along with the bouquet the sip doesn’t last long enough so I must have another sip. It is moderately dry. Where is my steak????? — 9 years ago
Delightfully mature Napa Cab with notes of pencil shavings, tobacco and allspice that play off the still bright cassis and plum fruit aromas. Silky but noticeable tannins frame more spice and earth toned cassis and red cherry fruit. The finish displays a surprisingly elegant yet powerful finish. — 10 years ago
Old world style from California central coast. The nose is redolent of Luxardo cherries and Antica Formula vermouth. On the palate, there is a battle between fruit and earth; deep, earthy forest flavors are offset by bright, tart spring cherries. Coastal botanicals play against wild fruit. Better than expected. — 10 years ago
A much maligned vintage, which we don’t see in the wines that we’ve tasted.
@Martin G Rivard brought this to our attention. We really enjoy wines from the Round Pond vineyard, but never knew this existed.
The nose displays charcoal and dense black fruits. Palate is powerful with big tannins and complementary acidity. Lovely sweetness and texture on the mid -palate. This is a power play expression of a Napa cab - not for the feint of heart...
Leave this to unfurl for a few more years, if you can resist it!

Probably a little less amazeballs than the 2009 that Obama served the French president when he visited the white house, but still fantastic! A rustic sage and anise note are quite interesting as it lingers long after you swallow. Otherwise, the cherry and cola notes from the cab play off the juicy strawberry and leathery/fleshy notes of the Syrah. Damn this is good! — 7 years ago
Back with more recent tasting of the 09 Carhartt. Only getting better, and aging gracefully. Bordeaux in style, 22 months in French oak, well balanced with earth tones, black fruit, and a 30 second finish. UP from last rating! — 8 years ago
Tasted ‘13 & ‘14 together. Wine bears the vineyard named to honor the Red-shouldered Hawks and other birds of prey that play a vital role in sustainable farming practices. Bright yellow with aromas of tropical fruits and sweet floral scents. Aged for 14 months, 75% in new French oak and 25% in stainless. On the palate sweet melon, pineapple and peach flavors and citrus notes, subtle yet complex and well balanced. Lingering finish, savory, ending with mineral tones and toasty oak. Consistent. Outstanding! — 8 years ago
Another above-the-fold headline scoop from "Superman's Pal"! This is a dense, jammy blend with slimy smooth body. The rich dark cherry, red raspberry, and black currant flavors balance nicely. It works well as an after-dinner digestive wine. — 9 years ago
This is dark and capable of impressive range. Black fruits, red fruits, spice and oak all play a role but not at once. Excellent balance and intensity; absurd Sogrape nonsense name. I think it's worth it. — 10 years ago
A few months since our last bottle, notes are still consistent:
95% Sauvignon Blanc & 5% Semillon; Entre-Deux-Mers AOC
Nose of freshly washed sweet, green grapes, lemon grass and green melon.
Palate is crisp, citrus biased, lightly tart not sweet, lime squeezed on granite, medium finish.
$13, QPR is just a crazy value play! — 7 years ago

Just beginning to get to the drinkable age with tannins starting to soften and mellow. The wine is still quite rigid though the balance has come back into play. BlackBerry and plums finish with green bell peppers and spicy peppercorns. Five more years and it’ll be great. — 8 years ago
Oh so tasty. Oh so interesting also oh so I wish I had a brick of Brie to eat with. This could use more time. 7 years? Child’s play for a big wine line this. There are tannins galore, and the leather and earth and blood need at least another year. But I’m still so into this Cornas. Would love to taste their...2005. Ever date someone and it is not the right time for either but...that’s this. I’m sure if I am not going steady with another Cornas in five years I will have a night of passion with this one. — 8 years ago

Classic B-flat Barolo - meaning it sings in the best key, it's easy to drink and it hits all the right notes - a crescendo of tar and tart fruit, backed by lightly percussive tannins. I got one more bottle, so I can play this tune again later. — 9 years ago
Gave it very high marks because last 57 was over the hill from same case. So bottle variance and cork condition etc play much more role in the final drinking. This bottle with mid-tall shoulder showed promise from the start with no maderized scents and prunes and only of focused medium bodied matured nose with good chance of opening rather than collapsing. Excellent bouquet front-back with good acid balanced by melted tannins but most surprising of primary fruit flavors and just sang after 30-40 minutes without decanting. We did not swirl glasses much either to preserve tightness of the body which really let it evolve naturally. LATOUR any year is Epic! Of course 57 no great year but only great experience! — 10 years ago
