Palisades Vineyard Petite Sirah 2019

5/2025. Great wine. Bold, full of flavor and feels hop to drink. Dark in color. Good legs. Paired very well with my favorite dry aged ribeye at Hall’s Chophouse. — 7 months ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (91.3%) and Merlot (8.7%). A bit tight and unexpressive right out of the bottle. After a 45 minute decant, this wine was awake and very alive. Dark ruby color. Aromas of graphite, forest floor, wet gravel and dark black fruit. Flavors of black currant/cherry/berry/plum, tobacco, baking spices, dark chocolate and minerals. Distinct notes of smoky oak and wet earth on the long and lingering finish. Tannins were a bit lighter than expected at first but developed with aeration. Quite savory, rich, full bodied and powerful. Beautiful texture. Exceptional (once it opened up) but not the bottle of near perfection that I had heard so much about. Château Rayas

Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2005

It is a great rayas almost at par with 2007 and 2010. Fully mature with this typical feminine Grenache taste. Wow happy to drink it once more. — 4 years ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Needs at least 1-3 hours to open up! But once it does it’s a Bordeaux true to style; black fruits, spice, silky smooth with a touch of acid and tannin. — 5 years ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1979

Amazing that 40 years later it is still as tannic as it is! Took a few hours to open up but once it did, super well integrated. Very herbaceous (juniper, eucalyptus), plums. Love the opportunity to drink a birth year wine! — 6 years ago

Why didn’t you find a nice Michigan wine from 1979? 😜

Very delicious once I stopped crying that we’d opened it a decade too soon. Stems and taut astringency, blackberry and pink peppercorns — 7 years ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Nice wine...still very young. Lots of tannins-practically chewing on wood for a while. Fantastic once it opened up. It was particularly amazing with cheese tonight! — 8 years ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

1989 vintage. From magnum. Nice fill and cork better than expected. Not decanted and first tasted after 7 (seven!!) hours after opening. Talk about task saturation...Light body with some brickish notes but back end concentration along with dark cherry and plum notes fronting earth + tobacco histories. Good length of finish. Drink whatever format ya got cuz it's definitely time unless you like playing wine pathologist and reconstituting tissue/flavors to flesh out what once was and rebuilding around the existing skeleton. Eminently doable as long as you're intimately familiar with the producer/wine, have previously tasted the wine and have really good notes/memory. 05.11.25. — 7 months ago

Yes and no. It was absolutely a pleasure now but I think even better to wait. I have several bottles and wanted to see what it was like now both out of curiosity and future comparison. — 5 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, blended then aged for 24 months in 50% new and 50% once-used American oak. Deep Ruby color with aromas of black fruit, licorice and minty floral notes. The palate beautifully displays rich ripe blackberry and black cherry, a hint of sweetness, vivid acidity and the right touch of toasty vanilla oak, still youthful in development. The wine has nicely integrated tannins, still holds some grip on a long finish which should give way to let this wine age for the next decade+. Excellent, Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago

Grosset

Polish Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2016

Still very young. Orange blossom, rubber, key limes, lemon and tarragon. Medium plus acid and not quite as taught as it once was. Great producer sure, but better rieslings our there for the bucks. Like to see if this would go in a blind line up. — 8 years ago

Penfolds

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2002

Slightly dusty corky note which hung around longer than it should have. Also on the nose Herbs and Mint rule the roost with berry fruit in the background. Cabernet makes its presence felt in this Cab Shiraz blend with its structure and a touch of austerity. Restrained fruit and an elegant style still with a good future. — 8 years ago

Teldeschi Vineyard Frank's Block Zinfandel 2021

A bit young but oh so good. Wonderfully complex nose has bright black raspberry fruit, fragrant stony gravel, high-toned backing spice, mid-purple florals. A little youthfully angular in the mouth, but with brightness and fruit and concentration and length. The purity of fruit is ridiculous. In 3 or 4 more years this will be even more amazing. — 7 months ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend

Probably one of the best wines I ever had the pleasure of drinking. I received it as a wedding gift several years ago. once my wife and I decided to drink it and we were blown away. The color was out of this world a mix of burgundy coupled with caramel hues in the light blessing it with a tint that was reminiscent of vin Santo. Not an expert just my opinion. — 2 years ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2012

Gorgeous. Tiny strawberries, crunchy leaves, cedar, iron, some animal notes. Sweet spot in mid-transition from primary to secondary. Once again the strategy of blue chip producers in “lesser” vintages pays off — 5 years ago

Nice spot to enjoy, I'm also a fan of Gamay cresting 10Y. The secondary flavors are more appealing to me.

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2004

The 2004 Dom Perignon Champagne is sinfully good at fifteen years of age. Showing off its downright sexy golden hue, the wine evolves quickly once in the glass displaying a dazzling array of aromatics, from orchard fruits to peat moss and toasty brioche as well as shades of salted Marcona almond that all nicely meld together. The palate yields a wonderful combination of richness and tension. There is a lovely ripe, almost unctuous texture to this aged Champagne. Flavors of salted macadamia nut, ripe pear, kumquat zest and shades of Shiitake mushroom with lighter biscuit undertones all combine brilliantly. This is a satisfying, downright hedonistic champagne that will be extremely long-lived. Drink 2019-2040- 97 — 6 years ago

Drink it, enjoy it! Great by it self, It’s like an Loire, Beaujolais and Bordeaux combined, from the chocolate and blackberries, to great tannic herbs finally with soft, light, delightful and rich fruit dark fruit. A beautiful Mencia, worth a try for anyone for reasonable price, to explore greatness and achievements this producer did with this underdog , yet familiar grape, it just proves it has a future and fame to reach within hands of careful producers and vigneron’s. — 8 years ago
