The 2004 Dom Perignon Champagne is sinfully good at fifteen years of age. Showing off its downright sexy golden hue, the wine evolves quickly once in the glass displaying a dazzling array of aromatics, from orchard fruits to peat moss and toasty brioche as well as shades of salted Marcona almond that all nicely meld together. The palate yields a wonderful combination of richness and tension. There is a lovely ripe, almost unctuous texture to this aged Champagne. Flavors of salted macadamia nut, ripe pear, kumquat zest and shades of Shiitake mushroom with lighter biscuit undertones all combine brilliantly. This is a satisfying, downright hedonistic champagne that will be extremely long-lived. Drink 2019-2040- 97 — 5 years ago
Magnum. Was great. Meaty spice, dark fruits, earth and pepper once it opened a bit. Christmas dinner wine with prime rib. — 5 years ago
Color : Red
Wine estate : Tenuta San Guido
Designation : Bolgheri
Name : Sassicaia
Country : Italy
Vivino : 5/5
Note : Opening of this Magnum 2002 that had not moved from its individual wooden case in special. Always so many emotions to take out such a wine and please the family. Perfect time to open it and we are on a silky red robe blood with shards garnet. The typical nose of Sassicaia with flavors of black fruits, pepper, copper and cigar. Once in the mouth, the aromas explode and the final is long, greedy, structured and elegant. Excellent.

Excellent.

Quality Sangiovese grapes which have been sadly overoaked to appeal to newbie Western Palates. After 30 minutes notes of earth and dried cherry came through. Many years to go with a good future when hopefully the oak will diminish. Personally I like the Old school approach from Biondi Santi where old oak and other procedures are usedresulting in wines which will age 50+ years. I tried a 2010 vintage of this wine from magnum in Italy 18 months ago which was also overoaked. — 7 years ago
Still plenty of personality to this, but neither the freshest nor cleanest bottle of wine you're likely to come across. Starts out smelling of musty attic and old used books, and it never kicks it entirely, but does pick up enough other elements like cedar and cigar box to keep things interesting. What it doesn't really pick up is any fruit, which is fine for its age, but it's a bit disappointing once you compare it to something like the '75 Beychevelle which is in much better shape now with plenty more stuffing. The tannins have completely melted away so the texture is fine and it goes down easy. Interesting now, but would have been better 5-10 years ago. — 7 years ago
This 1996 needed a little time to open up Once it did, it was a true delight. Of course, my husband’s charm make the wine a big winner — 5 years ago
My buddy says let’s have a bottle of wine- why not? Then he shows up with the ‘61 latour?! The scene from Wayne’s world came to mind... I’m not worthy!! hands down the best wine I have ever had. It took a solid 90 minutes to open up and when it did- pure joy. I could just sit and smell this wine and be happy. It’s medium bodied with perfect acidity as it hits every part of the palate with dark fruit and mineral/ graphite and the finish is like silk. It’s almost like it just evaporates and lingers and you just want more! As I’m drinking I’m thinking... how do you keep ‘em on the farm once they’ve seen Paris. — 5 years ago
This wine opened quickly with ripe cherry, tobacco, & worn leather on the palate... the nose also had notes of eucalyptus. Once open, the floral notes on the nose and palate were pronounced and continued to please throughout the meal that featured roasted rack of lamb.
This beautiful wine is ready to drink... — 6 years ago
Slightly dusty corky note which hung around longer than it should have. Also on the nose Herbs and Mint rule the roost with berry fruit in the background. Cabernet makes its presence felt in this Cab Shiraz blend with its structure and a touch of austerity. Restrained fruit and an elegant style still with a good future. — 7 years ago
The nose is a 10 at this point. Mint, cinnamon, herbs, nutmeg. Palate is super balanced between red fruit, minerals, and spice. The youngest Dunn I've had- probably opened too early but WTF you only go around once (plus I have a few more). The only downside? Wafer thin wax capsule that powders upon opening. — 7 years ago
WNH Zoom tasting #3 on 4/5/20. The theme was “10 years old or more” and I opened this after what I’d call a false start with a ‘96 Dominus Napanook. The cork was a bit soggy and difficult to extract and a sour nose greeted me as I decanted to remove a fair amount of sediment. But once the air hit it this wine spread its wings. It comes off as a hypothetical Volnay/Rioja blend as if there were such a thing. Mature warm red fruit, strong notes of rhubarb, cranberry preserves and sour raspberry mash. Very slight green notes but not in a negative sense. There’s still youthful exuberance here. This isn’t one of those “it’s drinking great for its age” wines it’s straight up exceptional. Great house. Great wine. Hell yes. Happy Bicentennial 🇺🇸🍷 — 4 years ago
Opened a few fun bottles to celebrate my birthday this past weekend. Cheers to 31!
I enjoyed a bottle a few weeks back, so notes are the same. A battle between chalk, limestone and stone fruits with toast, nougat and marzipan. I call this an oxidative style champagne. Very creamy and rich mousse. Honestly, I think this is best enjoyed in the near future. Extremely good now. — 5 years ago
Color : Red
Wine estate : Château Montrose
Designation : Saint-Estèphe
Name : Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé
Country : France
Vivino : 4.5/5
Note : Opening of this Montrose for a birthday, her bloody red robe, dense and beautiful. A nose of tobacco, chocolate and leather. Once in the mouth, we feel the explosion of tannins with red fruit flavors. It concludes very gently with notes of tobacco to give us time to recover from this trip. — 6 years ago
Full and round- still quite a good drink. Very strong after 39 years with many more in future. — 7 years ago
This is definitely a great bottle. High alcohol but once it opens up the bouquet is marvelous; Vanilla, baking spices, fresh berries and cream. All upfront taste... bright fruit, berries, orange notes, red apple skin, medium-high tannins but all upfront clean finish, surprisingly light body. I would recommend this wine and would be an easy seller with a decent price point. — 7 years ago
Funky at first but subsequently blown away. Fresh, leathery, flowery, with some structure. Can tell it was once a great bottling. A bit long over due. — 8 years ago
Delectable Wine

Brilliant ruby. Smoky, mineral-tinged aromas of raspberry, cherry preserves, garrigue and exotic spices show excellent clarity and acquire a gamy nuance as the wine opens up. At once rich and energetic in character, offering well-concentrated red berry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors and a sweetening touch of candied lavender. Shows fine definition and finishes gently, spicy and impressively long, with repeating florality and steadily building tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2021)
