Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Drinking the 2008 in 2017. Deep deep purple color. Thick long legs that last beyond the norm. Soft bouquet with hints of cherry, plum and raisin. Smooth on the tongue, low tannins and you can taste the aged oak! Cherry hints and earthy. Full bodied and smooth to the end. — 9 years ago

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

I have only the cat emoji with the hearts for eyes coating my tongue. My soul can relate to cherries, cola, roses, oak and those three hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil monkey emojis.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Loads and loads of Indian spice, liquid smoke and earth on the nose. Cinnamon and dark liquor cherry and pipe tobacco coat the tongue. Tannins and supple but ever present and the finish is long with notes of menthol and truffle. — 11 years ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1990

Oenomaniacs don't have pearly gates, we have Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache 1990. Outrageously sexy, with a celestial perfume of asian spices and underbrush and dried cherry. Eternal finish that tattoos itself on your tongue and palate. Medium to full-bodied, with startling freshness and grip for a quarter-centurion. La Tache 1990 will enthrall for another 30 to 50 years.

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Needs to air after first opening bottle but then reveals plush dark fruits, nice body and acid, has Burgundian overtones to me but at same time taste like modern Sonoma Pinot. — 12 years ago

Tongue in Groove

Cabal Vineyard North Canterbury Pinot Noir 2014

This was ridiculously good. Had it with our Chinese New Year dinner of chicken, duck, seafood, etc and it went well with everything. Full bodied, well integrated, just really rich and wonderful. Might be the best NZ wine I've ever had. — 9 years ago

Alter Ego Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

It has a nice nose. It was a bit sharp in the beginning. After decanting and sitting for 1/2 hr. It was great. The issue is that it not lengthy on the tongue. — 10 years ago

Happy birthday to me...from dad's cellar. Held up well! Thankfully not a dark moody Cab. Just what you would expect of an Opus of this age. We lost only 1 ounce to sediment. Didn't decant. — 11 years ago

Kungfu Girl Washington State Riesling 2013

I get green papaya or green pineapple on the nose. Lychee too. Dryer on the tongue than on the nose, I was surprised - pleasantly! Very easy to drink. I will buy this again. It'll stand alone or be good w/ food. Most white drinkers in a crowd would like this. — 11 years ago

Riserva Cannonau di Sardegna 2010

Snouts digging around the acorn trees. Prosciutto garlands lapping the tongue. Vanilla pipe smoke trailing the highways as we walk on through the valley at dusk. Lightning bugs and crickets cast an open sea under the full moon. — 12 years ago

Old Vine Mendoza Malbec 2011

This old vine malbec had a strong aroma of sweet red black plums, sweet cherries with hints of smokiness almost like a campfire. On the tongue you get a strong vanilla cherry sweetness with a long complex finish of dried cherries. I had this wine with a home made veggie chili and it was an amaaaazing pairing! It was the perfect balance of spicy and sweetness! — 13 years ago

Strong berry rich cabernet sav. Aromatics of plum, vanilla, blackberry. Soft to tongue with long finish with just the amounts of spice and oaky. Pairs well with grilled steak. Tannins enhanced after letting it breathe for 30 min - 1 hour. Depth in flavor, great with hearty meal to compliment. — 11 years ago
