Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

DCH
9.3

Wow. Graphite, tar, petrichor. Layers of fresh and dried cherry. This says Brunello for sure. This is not bargain bin Brunello, not baby Brunello, it's real Brunello. Not the most complex or nuanced one to be sure, but if you were trying to teach the difference between a top quality 100% Sangiovese Chianti Classico and BdM this would be a damn good one for the money. Almost too good to be true for under $35. — 8 years ago

Buckeye Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Very dark purple, almost black, totally opaque, no sediment. Medium+ viscosity, medium staining. Pepper, tobacco, cherries, tea, cocoa on the nose. Palette has a long finish with sour cherries, raspberries. Medium+ acid, balanced round tannins, light mouthfeel. This was a real treat- big, bold, balanced and surprisingly fruity Napa cab. — 10 years ago

Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2008

Matté
9.1

Rich black fruit with balsamic notes, black olive along with that herbal smell from saucisson rolled in mountain herbs, also touches of graphite, has real depth, quite savoury with forest floor & floral notes as well as baked blueberry pie also coming through. Not so exciting in the mouth as far too young and very disjointed but there is plenty of ripe black fruit, powdery tannins, really quite rich style that should age well. Let this one lie for 5 or 10 years. — 11 years ago

Ridge Vineyards

Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Delectable Wine
9.4

Perched high atop the North Atlantic plate in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ridge’s Monte Bello property boasts a rich lineage that goes all the way back to the 1880s. Even today, the drive up the winding roads that lead to the top of Monte Bello is arduous. It’s virtually impossible to imagine what conditions must have been like 130 years ago. Ridge's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is fabulous. Beams of tannin and acidity make a strong opening statement, but there is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's frame. This is an especially dark, virile Estate. Then again, that is 2013. Inky blue-purplish fruit, licorice, sage, exotic spices, and lavender grace the exquisite finish. This is an absolutely delicious mountain Cabernet endowed with real pedigree and class. It is also arguably the single greatest value in California Cabernet Sauvignon. Gummy, wharfy, rosy, smurf feet, with clean mineral pools, a saline touch and boysenberry.
