Continuing with the Langtons Classification tasting of the Best Australian Wines in the Outstanding Category. This Woodlands Cuvée always named after a Family member is their best expression of Cabernet. I have been buying 6 bottles every year since 2007. In the Wilyabrup dress circle over the road from Moss Wood and close to Cullen and Vasse Felix. Always one of the best in Margaret River. Just noticed @Delect Able that the 2010 is Heather Jean not ShelleyAnne. — 7 years ago

Nice Rose but more alcoholic and not as fruit forward as Whispering Angel Rose.
My friend paid outrageous price at BevMo $35! (Versus ClubBev $25 unfortunately she was not a member and they didn't ask if she'd like to join) — 9 years ago
I wasn't going to rate this wine at first, but after downing a six pack after a couple weeks I figured something is working here. It's definitely not your bread and butter pinot, and if you're a classic pinotvitorian, this wine probably isn't for you. But I'm just digging these crazy notes of root beer, caramel, oak, bright cherry, with almonds lurking in the background. Great body to this wine, well balanced with just a hint of pepper on a lingering finish. It's rich, voluptuous, and satisfying. As a club member I'm paying $28 a bottle and that feels like a deal. Good chance I'll be doubling down again soon. — 10 years ago

Chardonnay pairing with Saffron Fettucine with Saffron Cream, Pancetta,
Summer Corn, Parsley and Pecorino Romano.
Green apple, juicy pineapple flesh, green melon, cream, butter, light honey notes, some lime candy, rich, waxy and well polished. One of a handful of CA Chardonnay’s I enjoy because of their light wood influence. At steal at $36 member price.
Not the best pair I’ve had but, it worked ok.
Photos of, their terrace view, Saffron Fettucine with Saffron Cream, Pancetta, Summer Corn, Parsley and Pecorino Romano, the rotating ball waterfall and hand blown glass that decorated their cellar halls.

A full bodied cab that presents sharply on the tip of the tongue and dances backward along the center as your tongue curls inward forming a tunnel in a gratifying fashion. The tail does not disappoint as it stays leaving a lasting satisfying feeling. Sour notes of member berries lace the edges of the sconce with a petering of plumbus at the finish. — 8 years ago
Every time I drink Stephan Walker I realize why I am a member. The taste of their wine is unlike others. Fruitful and delicious. — 9 years ago
Beautiful rose. So easy to drink. Light and fruit forward.

Experimenting with Islay, love the peat, especially as this one mellowed with the sherry cask. Bought it because Trevanian's hero in his book Eiger Sanction drank a lot of it and a skit have club member in Dawson, Yukon did so as well. — 10 years ago
Founded in 1986 by Josep-Maria Raventos, member of the Codorníu family, creating a small, quality-oriented winery standing apart from the large co-ops. A blend of 40% Xarel-lo, 36% Macabeu, 18% Parellada, 6% Monastrell. Red berry and floral aromas with fine bubbles. On the palate strawberry and cherry with mineral yeasty notes on the lingering finish, good balance. Hand harvested and secondary fermentation rests for 15 months before disgorgement. A nice bargain. Tonight's wine was a Christmas gift from a family member. This 2013 Big Head Chenin Blanc comes from the Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario region of Canada.
On the nose there is pear, honeydew melon, apricot, apple blossom, ginger, honey, saffron and minerality.
On the palate I am getting an overabundance of ripe fruit, apricot, mandarin orange, mango, pineapple, baked apple, lemon curd and wet rock minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and there is a medium sweetness not overly sweet that lends to a well balanced, well rounded Chenin Blanc.

First wine I've had from this producer I've been intensely curious about. Extremely gassy, even past Badoit territory, needed some serious Mollydooker shaking and decanting to get into drinkable territory and then a bit more time beyond that to get its composure. It's got pure red-fruited flavors and aromas in the same tone, but instead of fruity the scents are intensely floral, very rosy along with something else underneath like rhubarb or some other member of the root family. Unfortunately I think there is also a nick of volatile acidity. The texture is lean and refined, perhaps not to the extent of some of the Eyrie wines but not so far off. — 10 years ago
