Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1983

Served around 55°F. The cork looked all kinds of nasty underneath the capsule but I was able to extract it, intact, with the help of a Durand. I then poured the bottle into a decanter about 30min prior to service. At the ripe age of 41, the 1983 pours a deep gold with a transparent core; medium viscosity with some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of baked stone fruits: peach, apricot, marmalade, hazelnuts, baked lemon, and those gummy peach rings. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is creamy, buttery. I thought this was a lovely, mature Corton Charlemagne and while it is very much alive, its life-force is fading. Drink now. — 20 days ago

Château Corton

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2013

👁 This wine was pale gold.

👃On the nose this wine had a medium intensity of youthful aromas. Aromas included primary notes of pear and apple tart, ripe apricot, lemon curd, and wet stone; also secondary notes of cream, butter, and vanilla.

👄 On the palate this wine was dry. It had medium acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, and medium intensity in flavor notes that included primary notes of pear and apple tart, ripe apricot, lemon curd, and wet stone; also secondary notes of cream, butter, and vanilla. The finish was medium(+).

This wine was balanced, delicate, and demure. An elegant Chardonnay grown on the hillsides of the Montagne de Corton in the Grand Cru appellation of Corton-Charlemagne within the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. I would love to pair this with lobster tail or scallops and risotto...

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay

All of the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latter family are vinified and aged in the cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still-functioning. Medium pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruits with a slight nutty floral character. On the palate flavors of peach and melon with lemon citrus and savory notes. Medium+ finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, toasty oak and minerality. Nice! — 5 months ago

Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Quite light garnet , terracotta rim . Quite discreet at first , sous bois , touches of spice , a mineral , chalky element also . On the palate quite mineral with light red berry notes , sous bois , light spice . Quite refreshing acidity with still gritty , slightly bitter tannins . Quite elegant and small boned, quite light and relatively elegant in style . Nothing wrong with this, though doesn’t really shine either . Good to drink now and over the next 5 - 8 years or so. — 6 months ago
