Fresh and lifted on the nose. A hint of honey, slate and lime. Very balanced and refreshing. Excellent — 2 years ago
The 2019 Pinot Noir Jolie is the most ethereal and lifted of these Pinots. Crushed red berry fruit, cedar, mint and orange peel hover across the palate. Understated and classy to the core, the 2019 is impeccably balanced, not to mention a real charmer. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2023) — 3 years ago
Smoking nose of bright tangy mid to late season red cherries. Ethereal, confectionary and gorgeous. Really bright and lifted. Expansive and deeply aromatic. Layered and full of nuance. Really terrific nose. 9.6. Just stunning. Palate is sweet, silky, gamey and just flat out gorgeous with a very expressive hit of delicate and elegant minerality. This is mindblowing. Did not expect this to be that great. Beautiful light and translucent color as well. Such fine tannins. Hit of licorice develops on the nose. Really wonderful sweetness but also terrific depth and such finesse. Usually Beaune is more bigger and brawny but this one. Blind I’d say Volnay. Very impressive. — 4 years ago
Ooh. This is a seriously seductive wine. An opulent nose with rich blue fruit, blood, hints of leather, soft cherry, some lifted floral notes on the nose. In that perfect window of maturity where there s all kinds of complexity but the fruit is still there, but settled. A gamey, meaty midpalate with mint and dried herbs. Plush and great motion from first taste to the end palate which is long with superb balance. Really great stuff — 6 years ago
As if anyone ever needed confirmation of P del B’s great product and value. Entering its prime, bright red flowers on the nose leading a deliciously dry and delicate array of red cherry, leather and sandalwood notes. Nicely lifted and perfect match for Wagyu. — 3 years ago
Fun stuff. So lifted for a full body wine like this. Dark cherries, plums, herbs and hint of floral notes on the nose. Great acidity and structure. Balanced. — 4 years ago
Deep and lush sweet lemon, honey, mint notes. Pretty acacia flowers and lifted precise yet lush fruit. Sweetness and criots lightness. Lovely stuff. — 6 years ago
Intensely lifted, fresh, and concentrated and showing incredible youth at nearly a decade in bottle. Perfectly ripe blackberries and black cherries are enveloped by aromas and flavors of fresh ground coffee, wet fall leaves, leather, menthol, and vanilla. The wine finishes long and with a crave-worthy mineral/graphite finish. This can cellar for years to come but is excellent now with herb-roasted lamb chops or grilled steak tips. Delicious! — 2 years ago
Levet is always one of my favorites. unfortunately these wines are getting harder and harder to find.
Black pepper, pastille, “Australian licorice”, black currant, black cherry, dried thyme/sage. It’s showing more fruit than I remember (this vintage? The point in its development?), but the fruit is pretty and lifted and not overripe. Of course, this wine is still showing the dirt under its fingernails—just enough barnyard filth to make it a proper syrah. Ripe, silky tannins. So much finesse.
Cote Rotie was the perfect red to pair with everyone’s entrees: duck, pork chop, wagyu, roast chix. — 4 years ago

Of course the 2014 Chaillot is in its early stages (although it is considered to be an early maturing and approachable vintage for Northern Rhône), but a multi-hour pre-dinner decant served it well as it was very open, giving and multidimensional showing great depth, power and an elegant backbone. Black raspberries, liquid stones, violets and a hint of black olive. There is a great midpalate richness leading to a long, finessed and lifted finish. — 5 years ago
Bright lemony lifted nose. Chalky and very fresh. Sweet at the edges and bright and long. — 6 years ago
Lush, powerful and focused. Tremendous weight but still feels lifted by fresh acidity and the exotic spice character that I often get from red Altamont soils in this vineyard. The finish is an irresistible basket of ripe, bright red forest fruit that really is spellbinding in good vintages which 2013 certainly was. Incredible compliment to last night’s Chinese duck. — 7 years ago

Plum with green pepper. Lifted floral notes. Olive and herbal notes. Great balance and length. — 2 years ago
