The 2018 Mollydooker ‘The Velvet Glove’ Shiraz is a utterly sensational bottling that rivals any wine of its kind. Aged in all new American oak, this shows a gorgeous bouquet from blueberry pie to espresso grounds, graphite and toasty oak tones that all impress. The palate is deep and utterly seamless. A massive core of blue and dark fruits collide with white pepper, minerals, firm tannins and a light dusting of salinity. While obviously big, this has a weightless quality and wonderful verve. Wonderful to enjoy now, this outstanding Shiraz will provide drinking enjoyment for at least another fifteen years. But why wait? Drink 2021-2038- 98 — 4 years ago
Really good Shiraz that is starting to age well. Plenty of heavy blackcurrant, diesel and menthol with a finish that is long and complex. This will get smoother over time but it drinks well now. Only complaint is that there was a lot of sediment, meaning the last eighth of the bottle was lost (unfortunately no decanter available). Great Penfolds example without the huge Grange pricing. — 6 years ago
Amazing wine! — 8 years ago
Nose of; black currants. Burnt ambers, black plum, plum, blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries & warm liquid black licorice. Palate fruits are again the same as the nose. Warm rising intensity spices, baking spices; cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, the core flavor of anise, tarry notes, fresh violets, dry dark florals, crushed dry rocks, rich dark soil, soft leather. Finishes big and lush dark fruits, warm spice and beautiful acidity. I also had their 12 of out half bottle at Vintners restaurant. Really good and at an amazing QPR. If you can find them in 375ml, you should see them at a great price. Photos are further shots of the tasting room and grounds. — 8 years ago
Well. Pretty much perfect. A serious 97-98 points for sure. Glad I waited 7 years. Incredible berries and not a hint of acid just the right heat. Like drinking a thin smooth syrup. Perfect. — 10 years ago
I love Dan Standish. He is one of the best winemakers. Lovely wine, very young. Blueberry and Red silky fruit. Full Bodied but not overly alcoholic, heat isn't obvious in this wine. Great length and layers of flavours. Big points from me 95 points. A producer I highly recommend! Typical sweet Barossa fruit, very seductive... — 11 years ago
Enormous oak. Hard to believe this is 16 years old. Plenty of life. — 11 years ago
Still celebrating that LNP win in the Qld State election. Deep crimson with a tawny meniscus. Dense and rich on nose and palate. Blackberry, mocha and dark plum as mentioned in prior notes. Very balanced with nothing protruding. At 34 years of age the oak has totally integrated when in its youth it was prominent, like many Penfolds reds. Supple mouth feel and incredible palate length. Previous notes mention that this was Wine Spectators Wine of the Year and definitely put Grange on the map in the USA. 95% Shiraz, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Unreal! 98 points. — 8 months ago
Color of purple with grapefruit. Nose of cherry jam, medicinal note, dried strawberry, a bit plum, a bit blackberry, a bit minty, quite fruits oriented. Taste is similar with addition of good smoky note, ripe grapes and cherry jam, rose, medicinal note again, and quite sweet. Aftertaste is bit hickory with zesty bitter note. Will be popular for sweet teeth. — 5 years ago
Color of dark ruby, quite opaque and a bit bubbly. Nose is interesting in a nice way. Some blackberry, some plum, round, chocolate, a bit barley, oak, and black cherry note. Taste follows the nose, with addition of green pepper, very nice black cherry note, and beautiful oak note, sage, olive, polished tannins, salty bacon, and subtle acidity. Aftertaste is long with some more rose pedal note. Tasty. — 6 years ago
It’s a good wine, but feels very safe and is somewhat uninspiring. Has a great mix of primary and secondary (winemaking) characters and strokes a good balance between the varietals. Still very primary with an an abundance of ripe tannin that gives the wine plenty of approachability. — 7 years ago
Lusciously deep purple that entices the palette early with aromas of vanilla and smoke. It finishes with light tanning full of fruit. Delicious! — 9 years ago
Found this hidden on a shelf of a local liquor store. Was worried about how well it has been stored. Well it's in great shape balanced the fruit has been relaxed the spices subdued Im probably not writing the best review but I rarely do. So this is good. And im gonna go rob these shelves of the rest of these bottles. — 10 years ago
Love this wine. Thick, smokey. Fruit and liquorice totally coat your mouth. Just the right amount of heat. — 11 years ago
Aroma of rich berries. Smooth and slightly sweet with a sour note. Very good. — 12 years ago
I received a bottle of Rockford as a 40th birthday gift, a wine I wasn’t familiar with at the time. After five years of aging, I opened it in the company of good friends – and what an experience! A rich and well-balanced wine, with intense flavors of berries and plums that really impressed. Wow, a wine that captivates with its harmony and depth. — 8 months ago
Concentrated extract. Nearly pitch black in the glass. Takes an hour to come to complete expression with layers of dark red fruit of cherry and plum soaked in spice. Remained very centered on the palette and settled in a complex, layered finish. Since we have been in Australia for more than six weeks I have to use the cricket lingo: this wine was all about ‘Lane and Length’. Much, much enjoyed it. Blew my head off. — 2 years ago
After a 4 hour decant, this wine is cruisin’ straight into my heart.... Kirsch, blackberries, coffee, dark chocolate, bacon, smoke, and grilled meat. Beautiful spices like black pepper, anise, cumin and cloves.
Maybe just a pinch of alcoholic heat peaking through in the loooong finish...
In the early phase of its drinking window, just starting to show gorgeous savoury nuances, it has a bright and lengthy future ahead.
Oh man, do I love those classically built Australian Stars....
Monumental wine! — 5 years ago
Delicious this is one of my go to wines. Low tanning taste, with the perfect amount of sweetness for me — 6 years ago
Impossible to tell that this is made by a convict.
The nose ticks all the right boxes. Rose petals combine with toasty oak to shape the experience. Palate displays soft cherries, balsamic reduction, with hints of tobacco. Finishes with sweetness and perfect acidity. Our only bottle... sniff.
Screw cap to boot. — 6 years ago
The palate is rich, round & soft with concentrated berry fruit & hints of anise. These flavours are enhanced by velvety tannins & spicy length of flavour on the finish.
Pepperjack Barossa Shiraz is a blend of Shiraz parcels sourced from premium vineyards throughout the Barossa. Parcels selected for Pepperjack Barossa Shiraz have bright, rich fruit concentration with a range of flavours from red berries to rich plums and a hint of savoury notes.
The fruit is fermented for up to ten days depending on the parcel of fruit, then aged for 12 months in a mix of American and French Oak. Individual parcels of fruit are matured separately to maximise the blends complexity through a staged selection process. The resultant wine is soft and plush with lots of flavour, balance and a fine tannin structure — 7 years ago
Smells kind of like... Wax, I suppose and mild oak.
Tastes big. Dark berries, nice round tanins with a mild finish. — 8 years ago
This is one of my favourite Shiraz's — 10 years ago
My favorite booze of all time. Stunner. 2002 vintage tasting so good. — 11 years ago
Hot, hot, hot. Lots of candied fruit and jam. — 11 years ago

Big step up from the Heathcote 2020 Shiraz, tight, somewhat structured, and needs some time, but very nice depth of flavors, and nice length, very good!! — 8 months ago
