There is a legend behind this grape that after successfully defeating the City of Troy with his Trojan horse, Diomedes is said to have travelled to northern Puglia, where he founded the City of Troia, planting the vine cuttings he brought with him. Dom Pérignon
Brut Champagne Blend 2006
On the nose; macerated lemon & golden apple, just a whiff of apple cider, overripe pineapple, lemon custard, the citrus flesh in marmalade, lime pith with some flesh, sea spray, chalkiness, yeast, yellow lilies, citrus blooms and white spring flowers.
The body is full & rich. Acidity is sharpe & crisp. Macerated lemon & golden apple, just a whiff of apple cider, a little bit of sour green apple, overripe pineapple, lemon custard, the citrus flesh in marmalade, lime pith with some flesh, sea shells, chalkiness, round grey volcanic minerals, yeasty, doughy, bread, yellow lilies, citrus blooms and white spring flowers. The long finish is rich and is excellently executed.

Now that's a properly aged Barolo! The legend says that the 71 is Rinaldi sold to Barisone in a demijohn. Beautiful secondary savory cloves & forest notes. Still shows some bright red fruit too. Absolutely beautiful & thank you to the Rare Wine Co for unearthing these kinds of treasures. — 9 years ago

Strega is an interesting Italian liqueur...better described below. I only sporadically enjoy it, but it's fun and tasty at each sip.
"Strega is an herbal, saffron-infused liqueur deeply tied to the secret world of witchcraft. Witches are said to convene in Benevento to perform rituals and honor Il Noce, the sacred walnut tree. (The lower part of the logo shows witches dancing with demons around Il Noce.) According to legend, Giuseppe Alberti, son of a grocer, saved a witch from falling out of a tree in the woods. In gratitude, she gave him the recipe for an elixir, which the Alberti family began selling in 1860, perhaps as a curative or restorative.
The liqueur's proprietary recipe is a mix of 70 herbs and spices which include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, Samnite mint, fennel, and saffron. Saffron is the key to Strega's signature yellow color and it shares the spotlight with mint and juniper as the most pronounced flavors within the herbal mixture." — 8 years ago

Decent, but the legend of Heidi wasn't shown here to it's fullest. I had the Amuse Bouche 2014 Horizontal together. Very linear, with florals throughout start to finish. The Syrah was greatly suppressed, with Merlot taking front and center, but lacked the velvety texture I would hope for from that style. — 9 years ago

Classy 2017 Anjou Blanc by Loire legend Thibaud Boudignon crafted from 100% Chenin grown in grey schist and volcanic soils in Anjou (his centuries old cellar and most of this vineyards are located in Savennières). Fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and aged in 300 and 750-liter barrels (30% new) for 15-18 months. Green apples, citrus, marked minerality, almost unnoticeable oak. 1979 Clos Du Mesnil. What do you do when you are confronted with a legendary wine? You hope it doesn’t disappoint. At Pages in Paris today, Tomo delighted us with this outstanding bottle. Medium golden hue. The nose was to die for: fresh, white flower, chalk and honeyed - alluring and forever changing in the glass while keeping its freshness. Hints of truffle wafted away within minutes. What seemed like an impossible dream of the ultimate Champagne remained intact. Fine but persistent bubbles, huge but balanced concentration with a refreshing, zesty acidity and a finish I can still taste an hour and a half after having drained the last few precious drops of this legend. Wow, wow, wow. Incredible. 100 points. Don’t be afraid to open now or in 20 years. — 7 years ago

I have two of these courtesy of the man, the myth, the legend, @Martin G Rivard . WOW. Out of the 15+ wines that were opened tonight, this was easily in the top half, if not near the top 5. Intoxicating nose. Cork was basically black. Blueberry compote and blackberry preserves on the nose. Vanilla and plum finish. Hands down the best mixed black wine I've tasted to date. Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Brander vineyard, planted in 1975, is a quiet legend in the Santa Ynez AVA. The vineyard specializes in Bordeaux style wines, with major grape varietals consisting of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Sauvignon Blanc tends not to age well, so drink them within ~3 years of bottling. Warmer climate examples, typical of CA, tend towards grapefruit and tree fruit flavors and typically balance the young juice with high acid. On the eyes: Pale yellow with a hint of green, star bright, clear, med stain, med tears, no floc, gas present.
On the nose: White peach, ripe honeydew, lychee, perfume, and wet chalk. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ acid, med tannin, med alcohol, med body, effervescent in the mouth. White peaches, ripe honeydew, guava, orange blossom, chalky undertones, perfumed finish. Very nice balance. — 10 years ago
Bob McDonald
A solid rich Ruby red with no tawny rim. Looks way younger than 27 years. An earthy, plummy leathery perfume with same earthy, plummy and minerally medium to full bodied palate - a sweaty saddle classic old Hunter Valley style. Medium plus intensity of flavour with great persistence. Demonstrates the amazing longevity of old vine Hunter Valley Shiraz. I think you could safely drink this into the late 2020s. Honouring the Hunter Valley legend, Maurice O’Shea, who made great wine in primitive conditions In the late 1940s and 1950’s. About 15 years ago I had a 1952 Mount Pleasant Shiraz made by the great man - just medium bodied and still full of energy. — 4 years ago
