Lover of: all things light, minerally, & red; in search of the perfect Chenin blanc, cru Beaujolais, mountain Nebbiolo, & varietals unknown.
Following a Rajat Parr score of 9.9 is a bit intimidating, for sure. I went to a wine tasting led by Cristom’s wine maker, & this led the lineup. For the entry level white, I was shocked: a light touch Chard, salt water taffy, Anjou pear, & pear skin notes; has snap & tension too. Drinks more like a bigger Loire Sauvignon in a good way. A good food wine but we had as sipping wine. For high 20’s/low 30 dollars( I got at 25$) can Europe make better whites? Maybe, but this is really, really enticing stuff for the dollar. — 18 days ago
Under 15$ Alentejo red, & it’s all about the gorgeous fruit: black cherry, blackberry. Light touch on tannin. — a month ago
Kissing cousin of the same maker’s dry Furmint, but this is younger & aged thus appropriately. — 4 days ago
My favorite Lambrusco varietal— darker & more guttural than the rest, with cassis, blackberry, & the old UK drink ribena ( a doubling of cassis) thrown in. This bottle is cheap & savory w a smidgeon of rs. — 15 days ago
Some serious structure holding up a palate of smoky red fruits, cracked pepper, & violets, & yet drinks very integrated & svelte— the nine years of aging feel pitch perfect for drinking now. Short decant. Paired with a chorizo clam tomato based stew, asparagus & silken tofu salad w sesame dressing, and unfortunately, a Knicks finals loss. — 23 days ago

At 8yro a lovely way to experience aged wine affordably, because it drinks as if older with all soft edges, burnished leather, black cherries, aged balsamic, milk chocolate & dried porcini. Guessing this in its drinking window but these wines surprise me with their longevity. — 11 days ago
Decent enough, with solidly yellow fruit/mango/papaya notes in a medium/ light body. Ok acid. Paired w the Knicks Finals win which, come to think of it, should have have elevated its score but didn’t, which is probably a testament to its mediocrity. — 23 days ago
Just a richness, depth, & concentration that separates this Lange Rosso from the pack. And a Crazy Eddie price (under 18$)… — a month ago

Only 150 cases imported of this Villages that swings close to Cru Beaujo . Dark ripe cherries, a savory edge, a plummy, mineral depth. Grown on sandy & schiste soil 200 meters outside of St. Amour. For about 20$ might be one of my favorite Beaujo QPRs in the last few years, especially as they’re growingly extinct. — 3 days ago
