Piquant, some volcanic sulfur wisps, bubble-gum, stewed bean and bay, and really elegant Pinot- like fruit. Beautifully resolved and at peak. — 8 months ago

7 Fuentes Valle de la Orotava Listan Negro-Tintilla Blend 2018

If I had rated this one the night I opened it, I would have given it a slightly lower score. At first, I caught aromas of leather and meat drippings and flavors of sundried tomatoes. A couple of nights later, the wine had opened up nicely and had more floral and spice aromas and flavors of red berries and earth. Needless to say, an interesting wine, indeed. And from the Canary Islands! Huh. 90% Listan Negro, 10% Castellana Negra. 9/1/22. — 3 years ago

Vinas Viejas Valle de la Orotova Listan Negro 2016

Sometimes you just need a #volcanicwine. This one comes from the craggy, windswept Canary Islands of the northwest coast of Africa. Put on some Cesaria Évora and get ready for a whiff of smoky funk followed by deeply mineral flavors of plum and red berries, bitter herbs, and pulverized stone. Faint powdery tannins hang in a haze as the wine lingers with bitter licorice root and camphor wood notes in the finish. Made from old vines of Listan Negro, it’s a classical expression of the Canaries, but from a surprising source. The producers behind this brand are the Spanish cooperative CVNE and local producer Suertes de Marques who selected fruit from theor vineyards in Valle de Orotava on the island of Tenerife. 2016 Medianías Listan Negro Viñas Viejas, Valle de la Orotava, Canary Islands, Spain. ⁣ — 4 years ago

Nice straw yellow color. Small, delicate bubbles. Smells very fruity with tart apple and pear on the nose. Yum! More mellow than crisp, and had a nice lingering finish. Love. — 5 years ago

Bodega Noemia de Patagonia

Rio Negro Malbec 2020

Medium ruby , violet ruby rim . Lively and freshly fruited , wild strawberry , red plum , spiced cherry . On the palate more of the spiced cherry , red plum and raspberry notes . Light herbal touch . Quite fresh acidity and slightly gritty tannins . Red cherry , herbal medium length finish . This is showing well but will probably age quite well over the next 5-8 years . Really good freshness with elegance and drive . — 7 months ago

Táganan Parcela Margalagua Red Blend 2019

Sanshugong.

12% alc. Margalagua is a charismatic parcel of the Taganan vineyard comprising 100- to 300-year-old vines on a uniquely iron-rich seam of rocky volcanic soil. This treacherously steep vineyard site is planted with a mix of mostly indigenous red grapes, such as Negramoll and Listán Negro, with a small amount of Listán Blanco. This parcel is about elegance and depth rather than power: due to the silky character of the wines, it is vinified differently with a much longer (30- to 45-day) maceration and 100% stem-inclusion, yielding a darker, bolder, richer wine.
[Vintage 2018:] “This vineyard has been vinified and bottled separately since 2012 because it has a very strong personality, not surprisingly, because it's one of the most fascinating and exceptional vineyards I've ever seen in my life. . . This is a translucent bright ruby color, and it's aromatic, floral, spicy and mineral, expressive and super fresh, because of the year and because they have new cooler vineyards. It has lots of notes of violets and lilies. The flavors are pungent, precise, clean, symmetric and very elegant, with refined tannins and a tasty, somewhat salty finish. This is the best wine they have produced to date. Truly word-class.” WA 98 (Luis Gutiérrez)
