Really interesting remember having this variety when Heitz Vineyard used to produce one of the few domestic producer - but this one from Asti is really interesting (reminds me of Pineau d’Aunis from the Loire ) beautiful rose petal nice cherry candied fruit in the mouth with some grip ( it is 2018 vintage) very light color (almost rose) — 2 years ago
Crunchy red cherries, red currants, black pepper, smoke, cigar box, mushroom, tea leaves, oregano, red flowers, a mix of baking spices and mints. long finish. high acidity, high levels of fine/smooth tannins. Compared to 2015/2016, 2013's fruit appears more blue - blueberry? more mineraly and chalky on the palate. 3 years in new French oak, 1.5-2 years in bottle. Organic biodynamic: 501 cow horn prep, 508 prep, native yeasts, cover cops - chamomile, muster green, no fertiliser, dry farm mostly with drip irrigation as backup. wine turbines in the vineyard to prevent mildew. — 7 hours ago
Acacia, pineapple, lemon zest, water rocks, hint of honey. Beautifully persistent acidity and length. Will last many years. — 20 days ago
Drunk with steak. This wine which is retailed at $ 40 I think for the 2014 vintage is really good. Not as good as the recently tested 2004 Heitz but still for a $ 25 cali cab at the time it delivers big time but only if you are patient and beats many bordeaux in the same price range — 2 years ago
50/50 Syrah & Petite Syrah blend.
Color, it's so purple and dark! Reminds me of Heitz 'Ink Grade' Port.
Nose has ripe, crushed blueberry and blackberry, light creamy oak, cut plum, prune and just a touch of baking spice.
Palate has blueberry juice with acidity subdued by mellow oak, crushed blackberry, black currant, faint cedar plank, moist-tanned leather and light black pepper.
After ~3hr decant we still had trailing heat from the alcohol (15.2% ABV), but it disapated in another hour or so. A great paring with some local Delmonico steaks on the grill, cooked to a beautiful 130°F.
When good protein is served at our house eight paws will be in waiting on our dining table. My wife and I only take two of our six chairs, others will have one hungry 🐈 each. We all enjoyed a great meal tonight, some albeit some with much smaller portions.
This is the youngest version of this bottle in our cellar, the 2010 can easily reach 2023-25. — 3 years ago

10 years doesn’t do it justice, at least another 5-10 is needed — 5 days ago
