A $30 magnum at Bottle Barn that’s a charming expression of French sparkling wine. Also better on day 4 than day one go figure 🤷♀️ — 7 years ago

This was the less bold newer version of a Tuscan as a follow up to the Super Tuscan before. Nice and mellow wine. Had with Frank and Mariane in Carmel by the Sea. Go figure... Italian in CA? — 8 years ago
OUTSTANDING. Probably my favorite all day (also the most expensive I had all day. Go figure). — 9 years ago
Sooooooo.. yeah. That happened. For real. First any d'yquem is cause for celebration. One significantly older than you is cause for alarm. Also from 375ml, so i would surmise "fully mature". Slight seepage, go figure, and during a cork test I got some movement out of it, so decided it was go time.
Note it was apparently still doing its job, the som got it out with my Durand in one piece. And yes. I will bring my Durand to a restaurant with old bottles for corkage because why would I want the poor som to go nuts and lose his mind with a screw-pull?
Colour was dark. Castrol gtx20-50 (used) with definite fading to amber. Reddish tones nearly through out. Browny honey y orangey colour as a whole, and remarkably dark.
Nose was intoxicating. As always. Very... bright. Alive. The aromas and high tones betrayed the dark colour. Honey, apricots, creme brulee scents poured forth readily, and i regret choosing to not give this wine a half hour in the decanter prior to consuming. Thicker than a regular white wine, but not like oil.
Still had some acidity. Texture was other worldly. Initial tastes were peary honey botritis fruity, and those faded to more stone fruit, apricots, honey comb, i swear light aromas of orange blossoms. We lingered with this for about an hour, well worth the time.

WOTN was a skin contact white field blend of weird hybrid varietals...from Vermont. Go figure. But truly compelling and beautifully detailed wine--orchard fruit and spice; some citrus and a hint of savory notes, like maybe beet or even horseradish. — 10 years ago
Aroma 3/5 flavor candies syrup 4/5 sweet enjoyable. Not my typical wine type but I enjoyed it. 90% merlot . Go figure — 6 years ago
Multitasking. With a blend. Seems thematically correct. From Breedekloof! And Malbec based huh!? Unique. On the nose I was wearily suspicious of lush ripeness—surely this was gonna be a flabby piece of...no goodness? But no. Elegant—a result of the titular Altitude if the vines no doubt. I thought Silk Bush was a cheeky name but it does get its name from the plant Sybasboom which translates to Silk Bush. Mmmm. Resisting so many urges both comedic and animal to say more but—shut up Ellen. This is delicious. It’s rich but, well, silky go figure. This winery knows what’s up. South Africa my fangirl status for you rises (in...Altitude?!) by the second. — 7 years ago

Those Portuguese...Interestingly enough, '85 is the current vintage on this bottle, go figure.
Our first 100% Baga, dried red fruit is the first on nose, with just minor herbs/vegetal aspects. Needed a lot of air to really get going, intially concerned when I pulled a two-piece cork (should have used The Durand), and had high acid/vinegar notes when heading into the decanter. On the palate, wow, quite fresh after a few hours of rest, great floral and dried red berry notes, perfectly balanced acidity, well integrated tannins. Honestly, blind I could almost think this is aged, Left Bank Bordeaux, St. Julien, very elegant...Wow! — 8 years ago

I was recently at Jonata Winery and didn't try Todos Blend but did so at a tasting back east, go figure. It's a blend of 75% Syrah, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and adding Grenache, Sangiovese, Viognier, Petit Verdot & Metlot. Complex aromas of graphite, leather, almonds and damp earth. On the palate blackberry, cherry and raspberry flavors, smooth tannins on a long finish ending with oak tones. Tasting Sample. — 9 years ago
Cherry, vanilla, woodsy, subtle & earthy colored — 7 years ago
Sadly, the last in a case. Reprising my notes from last year, still true except a bit more liquorice :
A year ago I was loving this, 92 and better than the 08 Dominus. Go figure this gets even better. Peaking. P&P, outrageous candy cherry nose came outta nowhere. At cellar temp, just vanilla-liquorice dreamy with power behind it and some serious length. Softer and more nuanced as it warmed in the glass. No need to wait. — 8 years ago
For $20 you cannot possibly go wrong with this. Once winemakers figure out how to include this much acid in ANY wine they make they will also be able to sell swill at this price. I am thankful. This is forward thinking at its best. I'm not even drunk after drinking this much. I feel amazing! I feel smarter and more creative even! — 8 years ago
Very intense and bright. Tightly coiled with crystal clear detailed acid and a beautiful powerful middle. Incredible fruit and minerality bunched like a fist. Goes on for ages. The last few bottles I've tried have been advanced- this is a baby with huge promise. Go figure — 9 years ago

Four on a bottle?Solid gsm. Grenache dominant gives it a fruitier edge and softer tannic body. Lightly arromatic, brighter red fruit dominates, with a decent spice note in mid palette (Mourvedre is 27%, so go figure). This is an easy sipper and, to me, a little more like a typical French gsm. I think I prefer the Mourvedre dominant gsm blends coming out of Rotie, B. Leighton Cellars, and elsewhere, but i might just be weird. :) — 9 years ago
Yes that totally happened. Rather good. Smoky. Somehow floral, crushed lilacs come to mind. Acidity acceptable. Cork saturated. Go figure — 10 years ago
