A quick CV tasting with Margaret L on her return trip stopover. Excellent example with lively and softish textures and long finish. — a month ago

Vigna Martina Barbera d'Alba 2016

Popped and poured; consumed over a few hours. The 2016 Barbera "Vigna Martina" is deep, dark ruby with an almost impenetrable core. More than ample in the fruit department with all the dark berries. However, it's got enough of the non-fruits: the inorganic earth, purple flowers, some herbs and spices, to leave one in no doubt of its origin. This is certainly one of the more polished versions of Barbera. As for longevity, even at 6 years post vintage, this seemed fairly primary. That being said and based off my experiences with Barbera in this category, I expect the secondary characteristics of leather to begin emerging in the next couple of years. Tasty now and should continue to reward through 2030. — 6 months ago

La Cerbaiola di Salvioni Giulio

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2021

Quite light ruby with wide pink rim . Very intense red cherry , spiced strawberry, raspberry , rose petals , dried Provençal herbs and crushed rocks . On the palate lovely sweet red fruits ; those spiced cherry , strawberry jam and raspberry present on the nose . Herbal notes and a hint of liquorice . Very elegant and refined , with good acidity and fine , polished sweet , but noticeable, tannins . Good length , with that saline tinge at the end . Very moreish even at this stage , young and fresh with balanced alcohol (I would serve this cool however ) . Probably will improve over the next 5 years and last a further 5-8. On this showing a step ahead of the 2020. — a month ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Very good, especially at the price (21.99 P&P). Cherry, menthol, clove…big and bold. Soft tannins, long finish. Enjoyed with fresh baked sourdough bread and creamy cauliflower /potato soup (ty Roosters) and Taralli crackers with pesto goat cheese). — a month ago
