Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a great one from Bordeaux.
Dark ruby in color with a short brick rim.
Nice nose of black currants, cherries, sweet raspberries, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, wood, dark coffee, light vegetables, pencil lead and black pepper.
Full bodied and gentle with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, vinaigrette and wet leaves.
Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This third growth Left Bank Bordeaux, is starting to drink very nicely now. Nicely balanced with a big mouthfeel.
Earthy and spicy with lots of fruits. Already showing nice complexity, and beginning to show age on the palate.
Needs 3 hours to open up properly and show the big tannins, so be patient and don't drink it right out of the bottle.
This 10 year old is good by itself as a sipping wine to enjoy with friends.
Still young and needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature.
Robert Parker 92 points.
I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers.
A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 13.5% Cabernet Franc and 13.5% Petit Verdot.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

Third of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.
Dark purplish ruby red. Dark fruits on the nose with notes of forest floor and some aged characteristics of mushrooms. Solid acidity and heavy tannins (7/10). Rich palate on the attack with black fruits. Opened up to some anise, a touch aged, earthiness and some minerality. Medium plus body and long finish. Drink till 2028. (91+)
Will leave our last bottle for a few years. Hopefully this will improve with age. — 8 years ago
Fresh tobacco leaf and gentle spice box on the nose. Full bodied and full tanic ride to a nice deep red fruit and earth finish. I like this wine a lot. — 9 years ago
This is the third time that I’ve had the pleasure of drinking the 2005 Caravina over the last year and it continues to be a stunner. It pours a dark garnet with no color variation however, this bottle was throwing an enormous amount of sediment. The bouquet is powerful with a lovely mix of dark fruits; currants and plums with sweet pipe tobacco, leather, and mushrooms. The palate is decadent with a very forward attack and layer upon layer of fruits, baking spices and earthier secondary characteristics. Finish is dry, long and super satisfying. Impeccable balance. Would be a deft pairing for most hearty meals but a winner on its own. I have to believe these are drinking at or near peak but if this bottle (and the previous two for that matter) is representative, that peak may last for many years to come. Hard to believe this isn’t their Grand Vin. — 5 years ago
Tried this twice and very much enjoyed it both times. — 6 years ago
A nice Niagara Chardonnay. Quite full, but not overly rich if that makes sense. You get a bit of sensation from the barrel fermentation but there is no apparent oak, just body. Good acid but one smidge less cohesive on the finish than I’d like. Still nice. — 6 years ago
Nicely oaked. Dark red fruit good finish. Delicious — 7 years ago
Delightful Pinot, amazing value Russell Bevan legend — 9 years ago
Bright yellow. Ripe orchard and tropical fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of lemon pith and honey. Smooth and fleshy in style, showing good depth to the juicy pear nectar, pineapple and melon flavors. Tightens up slowly on a long, silky finish that echoes the honey note. A very plush wine and similar in feel to other Krankl wines except very different flavor profile. Hard to explain other than I have never had a straight Graciano. Lavender, mint, Indian spices, and pepper. I would love to try this again in 4-5 years. — 6 years ago

Located on a beautiful 300 hectare estate, the Giscours vineyard is located in the famous Margaux appellation and eventually included as a Third Growth in the 1855 classification. The young palate on this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon: 70%; Merlot: 20%; and Petit Verdot: 10%; shows ripe berry fruits with pronounced toasty oak notes. The tannins are smooth but needs development. The lingering complex finish shows potential over the next decade. Drink the 2012 if you want something now. — 9 years ago
Third red of the evening. Deep garnet red. Needs time, slight portiness and whiskey on the nose. Dark fruits and figs too. Tasted blind but reminded us straight away of the 2009 Force Majeure IV we had earlier last year. Moderate tannins (6/10) and full bodied. A little cherry liquor and dark cocoa on the palate. Long finish and the nose is a bit off-putting. This needs time to mellow out. — 9 years ago
