Super nerdy producer who revives ancient (and often unnamed, such as in this case) Friuli varieties for production. This was medium + bodied with very slightly cooked red and black fruit, dried herb, smoky charcoal and wet concrete aromas and flavors. Medium tannins and medium-high acid create a structure that shows best with food (grilled duck leg quarters tonight). More substantial that I expected, and while I would have guessed this was Italian had I had it blind, I wouldn’t have had any idea which variety it was. This is really good. A little sour with espresso bitterness, but a cashmere mouthfeel and nice lingering finish. Not a ton of fruit, gives the aroma of an older wine despite being a youngish vintage. — 6 years ago
