Really well done, great density of flavor, bit surprised by such rugged tannins, intensely dark brooding & opaque with ripe cherry & tomato vine, crushed stone & minerals, violets & spice, this layered rascal just kept showing more and more... stood up to lamb like a champ! — 7 years ago
This is just lovely with hints of black cherry and plum with creosote, black pepper and soy accents. Palate is full of spicy Syrah flavors with lots of white pepper, plum and black raspberry. Tannins are present but sauve with lifting acidity. Just a great level of balance on the earth driven finish. — 7 years ago
What a wonderful surprise; this wine was fantastic and seemed like a young wine not 36 years old. The color was red rim to rim no bricking at all and I kept looking at it wondering why considering its age. The nose and taste were both very integrated with lead pencil, a lot of dark fruits and a bit of spice. What also got me was the finish, just went on forever and so very smooth. I’m sure this wine would last a few more years but why wait; drinking so great right now.
I decanted the wine about 6 PM. My wine opener just drilled a hole in the fragile cork so decanted through a tea strainer into my to-go bottle and other then the cork bits there was very little sediment. Started drinking the wine about 9 PM with NYE Dinner at Anthony’s in Haddon Height.

Prieure Saint-Hippolyte - Languedoc - Blanc
50% Grenache Blanc, 25% Viognier, 25% Vermentino
Nice fresh fruit, dry, Peach, pear, floral, wax, stones.
Not the biggest, baddest, longest aging wine ever, but... a very well made Languedoc Blanc to be enjoyed now, under $15.
Guessing 11-12.5% ABV (label range 11-14), went nicely with an omelette dinner.

Mature red cherry aromas and flavors, good balance, still can be aged further, just starting to show sweet fruit notes in the medium-long finish, lovely. — 6 years ago

This is the second wine of Cos d’ Estournel, Les Pagodes De Cos. I find it’s a good idea not only to buy first wines of Bordeaux in good vintages but, also buy the hell out of 2nd wines of good producers as it’s a close relative of their first wine for a lot less money 💰. 2005 was a marquee vintage in Bordeaux.
On the nose, ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, baked strawberries and notes of blackberries. Black cherry cola, saddle-wood, limestone minerals, graphite, crushed, dry rocks, stones, hints of; vanilla, clove & very light cinnamon. Dark rich soil, dry stones, anise, fresh & dry red and dark flowers.
The body is not quite full. The tannins are round, soft and well resolved, 65%. The structure, tension, length and balance are peaking. Ripe & slight ruby; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, baked strawberries and notes of blackberries. Black cherry cola, saddle-wood, dark spice, dry stems, mint, limestone minerals, slightly moist clay, graphite, charcoal ash, crushed, dry rocks, stones, tobacco with ash, hints of; vanilla, clove & very light cinnamon. Dark rich soil, dry stones, anise, fresh & dry red and dark flowers. The acidity is quite nice. The long finish is; ripe & ruby, elegant, well polished & balanced and lasts minutes.
It’s just short of its peak and will drink well for another 8–10 years.
Photos of; the majesty of Chateau Cos d’ Estournel, library cellar, see through floor barrel room and the back terrace and grounds of the Chateau.

2016. Best under $20 bottle I’ve had in ages. — 7 years ago
Fennel seeds, black cherry, mesquite. A bit disjointed—just needs time. — 5 years ago
This was the best Pibarnon and one of the best Bandols I’ve had - decanting filled the room with a startling and wonderful aroma of blueberry pie. There was more in the glass, with meat and earth, too. Just like the recent 2004 Pallieres, these classically made Southern French wines just need enough time. I haven’t bought much from these areas lately, but these bottles are making me rethink that. — 6 years ago
Medium ruby just beginning to get a brick rim. A bit stemmy on the nose, with some vegetal character and green pepper underpinning the tobacco and minerality. A little cassis and blueberry fruit - 40% merlot in this cépage — 7 years ago
Pale yellow, tropical fruit, mineral finish. — 7 years ago

Think @Sipping Fine Wine got the note right, I would just add this had really incredible mouthfeel - the tannins were solid but very finely grained & integrated. Regal bearing, long life ahead - impressive QPR — 8 months ago
