Whispering Angel Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2024

Very light salmon pink taking on that orange hue. Aromatics are orange blossom, hibiscus, and lemon grass with some vanilla tying them neatly together. Flavor is citrus fruit and creamsicle with a brief stop on the mid palate for some tannins and then a sharp cleansing acidity. Goes very well with an elote risotto with chipotle chicken. — 10 days ago

Caves Ropiteau Freres

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022

A classical, and more regional-driven Burgundian 100% Pinot Noir. Enticing sharp red cherry color, red fruity aromas with rounded acidity, so typical from Burgundy’s soil of clay-limestone based. Since it combines grapes sourcing from village to village with different terroirs selected to enhance an elegant expression of Pinot Noir, this one still keeps the Ropiteau’s house style. It is definitely an excellent region representation at an excellent price point. Cheers! — 5 months ago

Quite nice. Classic and recognizable as a Margaux. Nice acid, firm tannins, solid mid palate. At 25 euro an easy 90 points. — 9 days ago

Little Bay of Caves 14 Years West Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey

Not really a whisky drinker, but I can appreciate this Scotch. Very woodsy and dry. Cedar with orange bitters, and oaky vanilla bean. Clean fresh finish, with a long lasting Szechuan pepper tingle and wood chips towards the end. 14 yr single malt. — 4 months ago

Domaine Prieuré Roch

Clos de Vougeot Pinot Noir 2007

Of extreme rarity, the mythical and cult-like wines of Prieure Roch really do show such singularity. Grand Cru Clos Vougeot, with vines planted as far back as 1929 and situated in what is a coveted sub-section “terroir royal,” is perhaps their best wine along with Clos de Beze. 2007 is showing superbly, combining the elegance of the vintage with the power of the site with captivatingly complex aromatics and a juicy, earthy and floral mineral inflicted core and a finish that keeps on going. This was simply magical after some air. Special wine. — 6 months ago

30 years old and still bringing it. Drank with my blushing bride of 51 years on Valentine’s Day. It was a good choice. Both. — 6 months ago

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Very enjoyable left bank bottling for $35 on the shelf, if not pretty closed. Decanted for 2+ hours and was just starting to reveal itself, still somewhat shy after 4+. Blackberry, stewed mulberry, earth, coffee grounds, garden, and spice. Not overly ripe or concentrated with a subtle bitter balance. Curious to see what day 2 is like. Good value candidate for cellaring though I wouldn’t hate a bit more acidity. — 8 months ago
