Devil Proof

Four Roses

Limited Edition Small Batch Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 2025

I had a bottle of this limited edition in 2021, and at the time it was one of the best bourbons I'd ever enjoyed. Got my hands on a bottle of 2025 and it now costs considerably more. Really great juice. Although 109 proof, this does not throw too much heat. It tastes very much like a wheater (which it is not), yet the rye content is also prominent from the nose through the sip. Cherry, leather, cornbread, and cigar box. Best way I can describe it is that EH Taylor and Pappy 15 had a baby. It's very good.

2025 limited. Great way to start the year. And “best” is a high standard coming from you so if I ever see these regardless of year I’m making your pour some!

Aw shucks! It really is that good. Keep your eyes open at high end bars and restaurants, maybe you can sample it for less than an arm and a leg

Devil Proof

Rockpile Ridge Red Blend 2022

Deep ruby color. Aromas of black and blue fruit, leather, peppermint and earth. Stunning wine! Sweet toffee, caramel, blueberry and herbs on the palate.

Thorny Devil Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache 2023

Pale ruby in color; stewed strawberries, hibiscus, and raspberries on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; tastes like raspberry sauce, red currants, eucalyptus, and crushed gravel with a long finish. Nellie and I like it. — 8 months ago

The Devil Makes Three Farrm Red Blend

Earthy, not heavy. A prototypical field blend, this one is well-integrated (had the’15) with dark berry, spice, and leather. Looks like it should be a heavy-duty blockbuster, but is medium-bodied, almost silky, and quaffable. — 2 years ago

Pappy Van Winkle Malt Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 10 Year 107 Proof 2024

Brandon's bottle was better than mine. A little heat, a little sweet. Honey, cornbread, cinnamon, tobacco. Tight, clean finish.

Uh Dave, I don’t know this Brandon guy but I’m calling someone on the table. We review the Gold versus Van Winkle and rate Gold a bit below. Ok. Fair. But what’s with the Grand Pappy in the background and the invite in my mailbox missing?! Something is way off ;) looks like a great night. At some point I do want to try bourbons with you!

Yeah! 'Twas a good evening. I didn't get around to reviewing a few bottles, including the Pappy. You'd be upset if I did (it was disappointing) 😬 We did pour some Rock Hill Farms which was outstanding.
