Cournon Lafleur

Château Lafleur

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

A rich crimson in colour. Initially a note of Animale (Barb thought a brief note of cow yard) amongst the dusty cherry, dark fruits, violets and mushroom notes. Great balance between the 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Medium bodied with smooth supple tannins. The next day: Elegance with length - shows the quality of the fruit IMO. My first Lafleur, I think, and it was excellent as expected. — 14 hours ago

@Tom Casagrande, I still remember when my local wine shop in Brooklyn Heights in the 1980s had 1979, 1983 and 1985 Lafleur on the shelf for $30-35 per bottle — not huge quantities, but that was early (and, alas, last) exposure to the greatness of Lafleur. Oh well, maybe in my next life. . . . 🤷🤔

@Tom Casagrande @Doug Powers I doubt I will buy another bottle. The asking price has become prohibitive.

@Bob McDonald@Tom Casagrande and I could probably fly to and from Australia to share 2 or 3 bottles of Lafleur with you, it’d be cheaper than us each buying bottles here in the U.S. — LOL!!

Bernard Burgaud

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2021

Lyle Fass
9.7

I love 21. Utterly classic but young nose of red berries, granite and a youthful grapiness. Some florals as well but a bit of a monolith aromatically out of the gates. More notes later as it opens up on the nose. Palate is so elegant my goodness and has that youthful grapiness. Huge red and darker berry fruit, perfect balance, clarity and purity. So juicy and clean but young but obviously very high quality. More notes as it evolves. Nose now closed at 3 hours but palate has gained finesse and it’s ultra juicy and pure. Finish is clipped but this is the whole package. This has a semi opulent midpalate one can get lost in. Wow. Incredible decadent Pomerol (lafleur?) fruit. Just insane. So elegant. This is the best Burgaud ever. — a year ago

Pensées de Lafleur

Pomerol 2001

Dark rubi robe with no signs of its age. A very complex and profound nose of dark cherries, flowers, blackcurrant and anise. In the mouth its ethereal and elegant, ready and will last some time still. Excellent second wine Lafleur, the greatest Pomerol there is. — 21 days ago

A really fine Pomerol. Drinking beautifully. 2016Guest returned it for being “sharp and tangy.” Well, no. It’s just great. Classic rich red fruit with nice and sure pronounced acidity. Lovely. — 6 months ago

Château Bellegrave

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Bellegrave is well-defined and poised on the nose, blackberry and briary, hints of truffle unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite-infused entry. Quite solid and structured, almost like a "mini-Lafleur", with a well-defined and persistent finish that has splendid mineralité. Very fine. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023) — 2 years ago

94+ and still growing. This is a great and classic wine! Dark and dense, chocolate and cherries with great balance and structure. Love it now but this is also for the next decennia. 49% Merlot and 51% Cabernet Franc — 3 years ago

Château Lafleur

Grand Village Acte 9 2016

Well it’s the Acte 8, but that’s close to 9😉 in this price range it’s for me a steal. From a winemaking dreamteam comes this great bottle full of excellent wine, full bodied and fleshy stuff. Cool tannins and a bright future, if you find it just buy it and consider yourself lucky. — a year ago

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Tasted blind. It was evident that this was mature Bordeaux at its finest quality level from an excellent vintage. The absence of brettanyomces and a right bank aroma profile pointed towards Lafleur or Petrus. Deliciously ripe and dried red fruits mingle with black truffle, cocoa powder, forest floor and cigar box. Gently caressing the palate, the 1970 Château Petrus delivers a full-body, velvety tannins, a core of dried red fruits and a long, lingering finish. Probably slightly past it's peak, but still spectacular. Drink now. — 2 years ago
