A rich crimson in colour. Initially a note of Animale (Barb thought a brief note of cow yard) amongst the dusty cherry, dark fruits, violets and mushroom notes. Great balance between the 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Medium bodied with smooth supple tannins. The next day: Elegance with length - shows the quality of the fruit IMO. I love 21. Utterly classic but young nose of red berries, granite and a youthful grapiness. Some florals as well but a bit of a monolith aromatically out of the gates. More notes later as it opens up on the nose. Palate is so elegant my goodness and has that youthful grapiness. Huge red and darker berry fruit, perfect balance, clarity and purity. So juicy and clean but young but obviously very high quality. More notes as it evolves. Nose now closed at 3 hours but palate has gained finesse and it’s ultra juicy and pure. Finish is clipped but this is the whole package. This has a semi opulent midpalate one can get lost in. Wow. Incredible decadent Pomerol (lafleur?) fruit. Just insane. So elegant. The 2020 Bellegrave is well-defined and poised on the nose, blackberry and briary, hints of truffle unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite-infused entry. Tasted blind. It was evident that this was mature Bordeaux at its finest quality level from an excellent vintage. The absence of brettanyomces and a right bank aroma profile pointed towards Lafleur or Petrus. Deliciously ripe and dried red fruits mingle with black truffle, cocoa powder, forest floor and cigar box. Gently caressing the palate, the 1970 Château Petrus delivers a full-body, velvety tannins, a core of dried red fruits and a long, lingering finish. Probably slightly past it's peak, but still spectacular. Drink now. — 2 years ago
