Shared among two for Lumi at Ides and it was a great wine for progressing through the courses. The minerality and acidity paired well with the light prawn starter, the rich mushroom notes with the porcini agnolotti was a match made in heaven, and the weight as it warmed up meant it stood up well against the beef cheek.
Safe to say it's a pretty incredible expression of riesling. You can almost taste the sun and definitely the age. Great when chilled, but best at room temperature. Mineral, petrol, quince, honey (some bot speaking!), mushroom, linolin, marzipan, and soy sauce. Palate builds on with some tropical fruit notes, butter, cream, and toasted nuts. Gotta agree with Raff (Ides' somm) saying that it drinks like an old Burg. Warm at 13.5% abv, which is expected of a Smaragd. Balanced. Persistent finish! — 9 years ago
