Dunn Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

2 hour decant(decent fine/cloudy sediment). A brooding dark garnet color with little signs of aging. On the nose: plum, currants, funky smoked meat, mint, and pepper. Taste: soft, smooth wine with some blackberry, sweet tobacco, earth, spiced dark chocolate and some still there slightly astringent tannins....had better Dunn. — 4 years ago

I think their Howell Mountain bottling is the moodiest wine I’ve ever had vintage after vintage. When it’s on, it’s too good to pass up so I buy it every year 😆

SP68 Bianco Terre Siciliane Albanello Muscat of Alexandria 2017

Similar notes to 118 weeks ago. A dirty mid Orange/Tangerine in colour - a little cloudy. Aromas of apricot and mouldy orange. Skinnsy apricot flavours with mild acid. A skins contact white wine fermented in clay amphora in the ground. We visited there a few years ago in Sicily. Finishes with a trace of bitterness from the skins. Natural wines - when they get them right they can be quite good but having just done a week of vintage in Coonawarra at Bellwether - you need to take risks with natural wine. — 5 years ago

Giotto Bini

Serragghia Bianco Secco Zibibbo

Bought this knowing nothing about the wine on recommendation of my Delectable friend Anthony Lombardi, whom I have actually never met (one of the many things I love about this app). My initial reaction to the color and nose was WTF, not having any experience with these wines, but then I got it. Orange rind, over ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, orangina, capers, lemons, spice, sand, bunch of other stuff, all coming from a cloudy, orangish, smoky liquid that resembled what I understood to be wine, and I can’t say there was a finish because I kept tasting it long after it was done. Oh and it changed a lot over several hours. Felt archaic, organic, creative, weird, and natural. Thanks Anthony. — 6 years ago

Double decant and pour (decent fine/cloudy sediment). An imposing dark garnet color. On the nose: dark cherry, musty earth, slight minty menthol, iron, graphite. Taste: smooth, creamy, elegant medium plus body wine with dark plum/cherry, espresso, smoke, minerals, and a spiced red licorice long finish with firm drying tannins. YUM! Another terrific Saturday night...time to watch the next episode of Squid Games on Netflix. — 5 years ago

Bass Phillip

Crown Prince Gippsland Pinot Noir 2016

Pale to mid crimson and a little cloudy - a characteristic one used to see occasionally in Bass Phillip as they are bottled unfiltered which adds to the flavour intensity. A beautiful perfume of whole bunch notes, sous bois and a touch of toffee. Amazing intensity for Bass Phillip’s 5th ranked Pinot Noir cuvée. Sweet and savoury fruits. Delivers more fruit on the palate than one would expect from the nose. For short term drinking but still delivers the Bass Phillip stamp of quality. — 6 years ago

Marcassin

Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir

Always interesting to taste these wines, this vintage was already showing a bit of age, somewhat brickish in color, a touch cloudy but that is to be expected, the aromas were typical, on the palate it was low acidity, very silky texture, overall not the best bottle of Marcassin Pinot I have tasted but still solid. I would call it interesting. If you have 2012 in the cellar, I would pull the cork and get it in the glass soon. — 5 years ago

Taste: Wow! elegant, rich, juicy wine with mouth coating dark plum, bacon fat, soil, iron, and a smokey minerally cherry long finish. YUM, great start to the new year.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Big NorCal storm rolling in Friday night....calls for a nice bottle of wine!

Double decant(cloudy sediment). A mind-blowing deep dark purple. On the nose: black fruit, big crushed rocks, floral, very minerally, vanilla. Taste: black cherry, tar, mint, ending with raspberry coffee, tannins have sweetened but still there for the longer haul...nice structure, no hurry on my other 4 bottles.

pale yellow and slightly cloudy appearance. certainly not a fruity nose but maybe some citrus. awakening acidity. palette is bitter citrus, grapefruit, meyer lemon on the back. maybe some tropical fruitiness if you listen carefully. toasted nuttiness and an oxidized sherry-likeness.

Bottle 1 of 12
Had it with pork tenderloin with shallot mustard sauce, fairy tale eggplant and zucchini with a ricotta/mozzarella cheese sauce & fresh basil and mint

Casa Coste Piane

Frizzante Sur Lie Naturalmente Prosecco di Valdobbiadene

“It’s actually pretty good” was I think the descriptor in the menu and it was spot on. None of the usual boring prosecco flavours. It was the most dry prosecco I’ve had with chalky minerality, some apples and excellent finish. Slightly cloudy. Brilliant stuff at brilliant corners. — 8 years ago
