As always, best with a good bit of decanter time. I'm kinda loving everything that comes out of this vineyard, from lots of producers. As it opens, this is more deeply pitched than many of the D&R wines, with more earth and Mourvedre wildness to complement the bright red fruit, stone fruit and herbs. Yum. — 11 years ago

A couple hours in the decanter really help this unfurl. However, if you're waiting for fruit, it might be a long, long time. This is all about savory mineral texture. Excellent with some orange & fennel halibut. There must be some magic dust that @Hardy Wallace puts in the all the D&R bottles to make them taste better after a three hour decant. — 11 years ago

Smells like sweet tobacco leaf and dark fruit pie. Tastes like the best effing wine turducken you've ever had - juicy cranberry stuffed in plum compote stuffed in edible velvet covered in dust. Yowza, if this is CA Mataro, sign me up. Core of red fruit gave way to the darker stuff, after some time. This has me wondering if the D&R wines will take on a similar profile once they put on some age. — 9 years ago
