Not much age between the Napa wines in the 15-wine lineup tonight. An 06 Bucella, a 74 BV Georges Latour, a 95 Seavey, a 2011 Wm. Harrison, and this one. This one won the "youthful ager" award of the night. Decanted in a swan-neck decanter, this wine had immense fruit forward notes and spice. Edges had rounded nicely. This wine was dark, full bodied, dense, and tasted like a 2010 or 2012. Excellent wine. The finish was still a bit tannic although an hour in the decanter really did help to elongate the finish. With the way this one was drinking tonight, this one has probably 10-20 years ahead of it. Drink or hold! — 9 years ago
High tannin and high acid. This one will be a great ager. — 9 years ago
Young, tannic and chewy. Loads of fruit. The alcohol is about a point high for my taste. This one is an ager. — 10 years ago
Absolutely excellent chardonnay; totally opposite to the fruity brigade that dominates reviewers' minds; this is restraint, mealy, wheaten nose; great maturity though lime green at 7 yrs; 12% alc, hand sorted, mature vines meaning 35+ I guess; taut and true to light- medium category of this variety; has dignity not brashness; long ager too; paired with seafood bouillabaisse; #drinkoz #victorianwine #yarravalley #dixonscreek #debortoli #chardonnay #reserverelease #2008 #12% #maturewine #maturingchardonnay #maturevines — 11 years ago
I think of this as a little Cab because of its price but it drinks like a big boy. Fred didn't think this was a long ager but it has plenty of fruit and a ton of structure. A joy to drink. — 12 years ago
An ager,..... — 12 years ago
This one is an ager. — 8 years ago

Massive and still a baby showing lots of tannin and acid. An ager, this one will improve for years. If you drink it in the short term give it a long decant. — 9 years ago
Turley made this wine from 1994-2010 and to me it was always the benchmark for the varietal during that era. The 13.9% alcohol was probably the lowest in Turley's lineup back in 2002. Their Charbono has always been a sneaky good ager and this is no exception. Probably already on a slow decline now I wouldn't hold on to these much longer. The Tofanelli family now keeps their own fruit. I'll have to try their version one of these days. — 9 years ago
Red fruit. Bramble w/tannins. Nice long finish. Will make a good ager. — 11 years ago
The famed Black Russian - estate grown Saperavi & Sereksiya Charni. No idea how these varietals are supposed to taste but this is a serious ager. — 11 years ago
Fantastic! This Nebbiolo-based red from the Boca commune is tightly coiled at the moment, needs decanting. Nose of black cherries and cloves. Beautifully defined on the palate, moderately high acidity makes this both a wonderful food wine and a long ager. Tannins are fine, with the quality of Italian plum skins and black tea. Medium bodied, with a moderately lengthy finish. — 12 years ago

Deeply fruity modern style Giggie. Nose has deep plummy blackberry fruit and lots of cracked stone notes. A little roasted herbal slightly iodiney garrigue note. Soft, mouthcoating, full bodied, and in the zone already. This is not an ager. Enjoy now for its soft wallop. — 9 years ago
2013. Elegant style of Cote-Rotie. A little reticent on nose but this is an ager. — 9 years ago
Gale's Prize is becoming increasingly difficult to source since it was last brewed in 2006 when Fuller's bought the parent brewery. This one, the only spirit barrel aged version produced, is the rarest of all. The Calvados barrel's direct effect has faded by this point, but has left a thinner, more dry and vinous mouthfeel compared to the original version. Truth be told the original has proven to be a much better ager, but this was still quite a treat. — 9 years ago
Closed now, but it's young so no surprise there. Definitely a good ager. Well balanced and elegant. — 10 years ago
2013 - suggested by the LA Times for the holiday season- aromatic - rich yet closer to quaffer than ager!

Tasty, meaty Merlot based blend. Dried currant nose that gives to toast and soy. Finish of cola and red meat. Not an ager, but very tasty now. — 11 years ago
Enjoyed by half of those served. More earthy, more oak, not as acrobatically aromatic as it's sister vintage, 1989. One could say that the '90 is the one who did as it was told. Its '89 sibling rocks more of the inner party slut. As in Life, this will be the long ager of the two. — 12 years ago

Tastes like an old school Bordeaux. A cooler year resulted in a late harvest and low alcohol. Silky structure but packs a punch. On the finish the tannins grip firmly. An ager. #wbc18 — 8 years ago
