Cahors Malbec 2016

Methinks 2016 was a good year for this #cahors Château. Inky purple color in the glass. Allow for an hour to open up and take the edge of the tannins; then the nose opens up with black bramble fruit, cassis, slight baking spices, vanilla, molasses and yet still that classic Cahors earth / mushrooms. On the palate it continues that dark fruit, medium pleasing acidity plus coffee finishing with some muscular tannins and a long finish. It might be a touch hot at 14.5% ABV, but not egregiously so. A Château-bottled red from the ancestral home of #malbec for $7 at Costco. Lamb chops or a porterhouse would be a stellar pairing. — 4 years ago

Château de Grézels

Prestige Cahors Malbec Merlot 2019

First-rate QPR #cahors #malbec #merlot (70%/30%) blend. Nose considerably fruitier than the previous vintages I’ve found at #costco which were 100% Malbec. The merlot brings ripe bramble fruit on the nose followed by earthy undertones. Succulent acidity on the palate right up front, black berries following with some dark chocolate, forest floor, leather notes. Hearty tannins linger on the finish and build with each sip. QPR is way up there for under $9. — a year ago

Immaculate aromas of rich tobacco, raspberry reduction and purest blackberry with sweet cedar and Madagascar vanilla, with violets, roses, and mint. Black currant, blackberry, graphite, concentrated forest notes of pinecone, bramble, baker’s chocolate, licorice, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, cedar, Jamaican tobaccos, dried violets, Roobios, and iron minerality. #chateauhauteserre #icone #cahors #frenchwinescholar #frenchred #malbec #swfrance — 5 years ago

Prestige Cahors Malbec Merlot 2014

70% #malbec 30% #merlot - complex, earthy nose; palate features dark fruit compote, otherwise very shy fruit with leather, smoked meat, coffee with chewy tannins. #cahors — 4 years ago

Cahors Malbec 2010

Haven’t tasted in three years. The mineral component has become more defined and pervasive: powderized rocks and black iron. Bitter almond, prunes and blackstrap. And still no stinking Merlot. #cahors #malbec — 5 years ago

Château Eugenie

Cuvée Reservée De l'Aieul Cahors Malbec 2008

Vintage 2008 This #malbec #cahors wine has a lot to offer: nice red fruit in a promising nose, fair roundness and balance in an excellent and very fresh taste. What a good cuvee this is... — 6 years ago
