Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2026

Maybe it bit too full bodied for my taste, but it easily balanced itself with acidity. A fine production. — 11 days ago

Les 1er Ponts Pinot Noir 2019

My notes were short on this. Quite natty (reduction). Red-fruited. Spice. Some underlying minerality and bright acidity. Good energy, but I didn’t linger much on this wine. There were better ones to drink on the table. — 2 months ago

Les Bambins Saint Amour Gamay 2020

Lovely, classy Beaujolais village level gamay, 2020 vintage enjoying early in 2024.

Goes well with cheese and crackers and staying indoors on cold winter nights.

Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir

It’s easy to overrate a wine (I do it myself all the time), but I think natural wines get more up-loved. This is a very good wine. — 2 years ago

Le Rouvre 2017

On the nose, iron, meat and blood. In the mouth, dark fruit, cracked pepper, rose hips and iron. High tannins, medium acid, long finish. Big wine and needs 3-5 more years at least to integrate the wood and calm the tannins. — 3 years ago

Le Rouvre Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2018

Just what I want in a Crozes. So earthy and mineral on the nose. Just wafting out of the glass with dirty crushed granite and feral scents. Some rich blackberry fruit and dried beef too. Broad and very open on the palate. Rich savory flavors all over the place. Some tannin provides a bit of scaffolding, but this is all about now. (I sometimes refer to a good Crozes as “slutty” Syrah, but I probably should avoid terms that have historically been used disparagingly, even though I mean it in a good way!) — 3 months ago

Hermitage Syrah 2015

Good body and acidity, Laura’s favourite of the evening.

Go to the black pig, bring your kids, share plates and drink good wine by the glass (or bottle).

OH!... Beaujolais Gamay 2020

2020 is so fresh. Great nose, tart cherries, elderberry, stones, some greenery, just a touch of tart strawberry jam. Outstanding. This is what I remember 15 dollar Beaujolais tasting like 10+ years ago. — 2 years ago
