2017 Castello di Ama L’Apparita was the wine that I pulled for the evening. Italian Merlot. Ama is an old, fortified village situated near Radda and Gaiole in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. On the nose, intense dark berries. A full bodied wine with layers of beautiful ripe fruit. Perfect balance. Stellar finish. Stunning. — 2 years ago
This up-front, fleshy Chianti is drinking really nicely right now. Pretty extroverted nose shows dark, macerated cherry, iodiney minerality, and a little loamy soil. In the mouth it’s pretty full, with a big whack of fruit initially, some tertiary notes developing and becoming apparent in the back half of the palate. Decent acids and still some soft tannin providing some scaffolding. I’d like a bit more linearity and persistence in the finish but for a ‘18 it’s darn nice. — 2 months ago
Long day in Tralee working, feels so good to have this cracking Chianti Classico with the Black Cockerell, plums, berries, tobacco, great way to revive... — 3 months ago
A nice neat Chianti Classico that is light and yet has a robust taste that has a nice finish.

Classic Napa cab. Constrained fruit, mellow tannins, good structure. Beautiful cassis notes. This bottle was a gift. After looking up the prices I was pretty shocked. Totally not worth North of $150. — 6 months ago

Still drinking, wonderfully after 12 years. A fine example of this variety from Italy. — 2 years ago

Concur with the WS review below, although I dropped my score one point and would add that the wine presently requires hours of natural aeration—no less than four in the bottle! We tested the use of a Vinturi, which produced unsatisfactory results. Perhaps decanting would take less time. Paired with pistachio crusted rack of lamb.
WS: 92. A fragrant and elegant red, delivering tuberose, strawberry, cherry and grassy aromas and flavors. Taut and balanced, with bright floral and red fruit notes gracing the lingering finish. Best from 2024 through 2038. 375 cases made, 150 cases imported. — 5 months ago
This one is so smooth. Cherry, smoke, and raspberry. — 6 months ago
Very nice. Garnet color, slight preserved fruit nose. Bright, soft. Tannins and acids balanced but present, definitely possible for aging. — 7 months ago
