Enjoyed with a Cantonese beef stew, dad's recipe. Decanted 3 hours before dinner and it still held tight graphite, cedar, and black fruit notes. A touch closed up or young right now, will revisit my next bottle in 5 to 10 years — 10 months ago
Always a favorite, the 2021 vintage holds up to prior years, rich bouquet, full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Paired very well with lamb loin. — 2 years ago
Sediment. Spicy, yet very smooth up front. Decant. A slight tannic finish. Super Bowl dad Tara Erin Myra. — 4 years ago
A big bold plumy purple bomb As dense and luscious as a wine can get in a glass. Decanted for 2 hrs and its still a baby with blackberry, dark chocolate licorice and pepper on the nose and on the palate. A long long finish and loads of tannins to sum it all up — 6 years ago
1982 vintage. Color still fairly youthful. Meniscus not too wide/watery. Brickish, minty nose with big cedar & baking chocolate flavors. Holding up better than expected for a fruity vintage. — 8 years ago
Welcome to Friday and it looks like a beautiful weekend. The wine today is the 2013 Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore. I have been waiting a long time to try an Ornellaia it has lived up to my expectations. This wine is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot.
On the nose is dark fruit, black cherry, plum, blackberry, graphite, violets and spice.
On the palate is a fully integrated wine with black cherry, raspberry, cassis, cedar box, some tobacco, and spice.
There is medium + acidity, silky smooth full body mouth feel with firm intense tannins. The wine rounds out with a long beautiful finish.
I was definitely delighted and not disappointed with this wine.
Please have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 9 years ago
Outstanding. Ethereal. Sugar plumb fairies dance in the season floating across my palate with arms full of toasted brioche, citrus zest. So light. Must drink at temp, as the fairies start falling if they warm up. That's not a pleasant experience. — 10 years ago
Loved the brambles and berries from the Zin, great acidity. Took some time to really open up, this should hold up for quite a while. — 13 years ago
It has a nearly opaque, dark fruited appearance that opens up to very appealing and persistent aromatics and flavors of blueberries and blackberries.
There is still a good amount of primary fruit; it is medium/full, well structured with a good balance of juicy acidity and refined tannins at the finish. New oak is there, but unobtrusive.
Overall, this 2010 is a reserved and savory St. Julien that doesn’t whack me over the head with gobs of oak and loads of sweet jammy fruit. It is definitely “worth a search” if you don’t have it. — 10 months ago
Once opened up, Smelled like truffle butter. At first tasted like grass — 3 years ago
Full-bodied with acerbic bite, beginning to open up splendidly. — 6 years ago
Just opened in 2017 - was tight the first evening and definitely needed time to open up. Earthy, mushroom/forest floor notes on the palate, despite bright acidic nose. Crowd pleaser - happy I saved this.
Purchased w/ dad in 2014 - industry price $55 — 9 years ago
After a couple hours began to open up. Chateauneuf-du-pape is becoming a fav in this house 2012 vintage. — 10 years ago
Spicy, liquorice plums, wrapped up in cedar wood. Very long finish. Top notch. — 11 years ago
All leather and cigars at first, and then the fruit showed up after an hour. Delicious. — 9 months ago
The 2018 Léoville-Poyferré performs similarly to the bottle tasted a few weeks earlier in the UK for my in-bottle round-up, although here I sense more opulence on the nose, perhaps more florality. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, broad and sensual, plummy with that beguiling symmetry on the finish. It needs several years in bottle but it will be well worth the wait. Tasted at the Léoville-Poyferré vertical at the château with Sara Lecompte Cuvelier. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

2016 Costco $19. Full body, doesn’t take much time to open up. Ok value. — 8 years ago
Been waiting a while to drink this one. Barely needed to open up. Great American red wine. — 9 years ago
Gamey on the nose, tart fruit, earthy, would have benefited from decanting. opened up nicely in the glass when slowly sipped over the course of several hours. Smooth and complex. — 9 years ago
Wow. More flavor, much better than their regular cab. Silky, velvet, smooth. Chocolate. Rich fruit. Big, full flavor, lots of flavor. Not old world style for sure, not subtle. It's a big bomb. We would pay up to $75 for this so a bit overpriced to us.

2021 vintage. Coravin sampled from a 375ml bottle. That classic, Shafer feminine, cassis, graphite flavor blanket with balanced, on cue tannins. Picked up two cases of the 1/2 btls as we will blow thru them. 03.19.25. — 9 months ago
