Bolgheri Red Bordeaux Blend

Always great fun to do these types of comparisons. Both wines had pristine corks & perfect fills. Decanted for about 45 minutes. A very expressive nose of black cherries , plums , and tobacco. The nose carried over to the palate. Very round with lovely acid and soft tannins. My only nit was on the finish where a hint of alcohol sneaked in after about 90 mins.

Loved every single drop - amazing and full of smiles - a great 2001 vintage is holding up very well as this was the best Ornellaia I've ever had. Explosively bold and delicious yet extremely balanced all the way through. Perfect tannins and very long finish. I believe this bottle is entering the early stages of it's drinking window but still has 10 plus years - omg good

Both 2001s in a good place right now. Ornelaia a bit more concentration, Solaia more savoury

Another Ornellaia with ample bottle age that is just closed and intractable. Hello? Is anybody in there? Hello? I'm exaggerating a bit, it has some weight and stuffing but just very very tight.

Still quite young. Crowd pleaser.

Very elegant super Tuscan, but still has the rich concentration that you expect. Lots of black currant, chocolate and espresso with fine tannins and a prodigious finish.

Drank at estate out of 3L. Like an outstanding '01 Bordeaux.
