Domaine Le Roc

La Folle Noire d'Ambat Fronton Negrette 2022

No notes. I could not spend time in toulouse without popping a folle noire. Superb value, superb wine. Buy by the container. This is not a biased review. — a month ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

Oh yes…gimme all them funky cherries and all dat black licorice. There were also Ferrara Red Hots®️and a generous hit of black pepper. I simply adore Pegau; for all of its unapologetic character and authenticity. This 2015 brought the business tonight and was smashing with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. — a year ago

Château Rayas

Réservé Pignan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache 2000

The color of the 2000 Pignan is a brilliant pale ruby color and slightly cloudy. Noticeably lighter in complexion than the others in the CdP flight. Yep…it has that scintillating, heady nose that is so unique to Rayas. Pine needles, wild strawberries, cardamom…woof. This bottle had some VA but I didn’t mind. Perhaps not the most exciting Rayas but I’m splitting hairs here. A very nice pairing with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. Drink now and through 2035. Merci Matt! — a year ago

Château de Francs

Les Cerisiers Côtes de Francs Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

Date night with my wife in my childhood's home back home without any kid or pet in sight. We are working remotely this week from Toulouse, but this definitely feels like an extension of our summer holidays 😁.
The nose is very merlot-forward with notes of cherry, leather, earthy, clay touches, cedar, beef stew and almond powder. The palate is big, bright and broad, with a nice strawberry and earthy notes that carries on all along a strong acid drive, there is width, there is matter, it's rather muscular but you peep the 15% abv on the (barely readeable) back label you start to understand why! Tannins kick in the rear but they are not harsh, they caress and come across as a gentle hug around a very nice, meaty, juicy finish that goes on for a while. Cherry and earthy notes carry on and that savoury touch comes around to crown a very nicely made right bank effort. Kudos to the winemaker, this is punching way above its 10 euro retail price category and I have had many a saint emilion in my time that would be pale in comparison.

Château de Beaucastel

Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2005

Talk about an enormous wine. The 2005 is downright youthful and packed to the gills with fruit and character. Dark fruited with anise and black pepper. It was just so dense that everything seemed locked up right now…and we can thank Mourvedre for that. This was very tasty with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. If I were going to open another one of these, I would probably hold until 2030 and this will probably last for another 25 years beyond that. A massive wine with a long future yet ahead. — a year ago

Estate Anderson Valley Riesling 2019

I think this producer is more successful with the white varietals. Silky and generally dry but with just the smallest hint of sweetness that paired well with Burmese food. — a year ago

Clos Troteligotte

K- Pot' Sans Protection Cahors Malbec 2022

Natty malbec without any added sulfites. Extremely fruity, nice dusty tannins. Light, easy going, quaffable red wine. We had it slightly chilled to balance the current heat we experience in Toulouse. Very good stuff! — a year ago

Henri Bonneau

Cuvée Marie Beurrier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2013

I opened this bottle of the 2013 “Cuvée Marie Beurrie” the day before and poured into a ship’s decanter for a couple of hours before returning to the bottle. In the glass, just, wow. This is developing still with the darkest brambles and stone with purple flowers and garrigue. This is so beguiling, so deep with tannins and acid for days. Full of power and grace and stunner with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. This could use another decade easily and drink well through 2053. — a year ago

Cahors Malbec 2008

Savory delight - currants, garrigue, tannins. Developing but seemingly early stage even at 15 years. Gastronomic and a terrific pairing with regional foods (braised Toulouse sausages & beans). Perfect provenance for this library release from Fass Selections @Lyle Fass — 3 years ago
