Freacobaldi Maremma — 8 months ago
Pronounced “Es-peck-tuckle dell Mont-sunt.” Located in so-called armpit of Spain’s prestigious wine country principally because of its rustic quality. Deep Ruby with intense fruit aromas and sweet floral spice, aged 15 mos in French oak, from a warm dry vintage. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and raspberry with currants, sweet cacao, floral & pepper spice. Fine big tannins, well balanced with long finish finesse, ending with herb and spice, adding slight alcohol warmth. — 3 years ago

Tart and woody- strange combo but balances so pleasingly! — 7 months ago
Tenuta dell’ Ornellia’s entry level offering. Blend of Merlot (50%), Sangiovese (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Dark ruby/purple color. Ripe red fruit aromas with hints of tobacco, purple flowers, spices, crushed stones and garrigue. Ripe strawberry, cherry and red currant on the creamy pallet with notes of spices, vanilla, orange zest and cedar. Juicy and luscious. Just a baby, (nicely balanced) but there is a lot to like here. Outstanding QPR! Punches way above its price weight. Happy Birthday Kieth S! — 3 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2018 “Il Rosso delle Donne” pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart, mostly red fruits: Morello cherry, raspberries, strawberry, roses, a whiff of horse blanket, red rope licorice, dried green herbs, and dry gravel. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a slightly wild but positively gorgeous example of a Nebbiolo-based blend from Alto Piemonte. There’s an old school feel about this that completely charms the heart. Too bad there is so little of it: the entire Boca DOC has less than 50 acres planted to vine. Castello Conti only made 3912 bottles of this gem. Drink now through 2048+. — 7 days ago
