This is a wine that need lots of time in the decanter or big ass glass.
Trying to understand this wine from just pouring a glass and drinking it is pointless.
Full bodied (Imagine meatloaf in fight club, may he rest in peace) complex, super tight and vivid yet 18 years young. On the nose I sense tar (freaking new highway asphalt!) probably new and old reused oak. Scent of white spirit in that haze of tar before sweet jammy fruit appears between a rich autumn forrest with leaves that start to decompose in my nostrils. Mineral notes between iron, copper, gravel and a plummers jacket. This is by far a wine that I can’t decide if I like or love I’m intrigued by its mystique and bedazzled by its harsh appearance. These grapes must have grown on vines stuck with its roots deep in some serious steriod soil.
On the palate, long jammy blue fruit, violets, ripe black plum, blackberry, liquorice, tar, rich iron minerality towards licking your own wound. Long lasting finish going to sundried blue fruit, tobacco and jeez this wide palete with its perfectly integrated oak and smooth tannins.
I’m ready to give my verdict after 4-5 hours in the glass, I love this wine so much. — 4 years ago

Ei ihme, että kultamitali tuli Vuoden viinit 2020. Sitruksinen, hyvä Riesling. Sopii mm. sushien kanssa. — 6 years ago
You definitely has to be decanted this.
I reckon this doesn't need much introduction, it is "The" wine inspiring the Kurni boys generation.
Extremely low yield, vines are planted at a super high density in the vineyard that the roots, due to the competition, are gone very deep in the soil.
The wine is a bomb, very concentrated, silky, fruity and it does explode just after touches your tongue.
Far too early to be enjoyed IMO.
100% Montepulciano grapes.
Potentially more than 9.5, but not yet. — 6 years ago
Deep garnet hue, tertiary, sweet/sour, energetic acid for its aged character, lingering dusty tannin and amaro spice. Old leather, dried and stewed cherry/plum fruit, dust, porcini, animal hide, hung meat, cigar wrapper, bitter roots, bitter cocoa powder, wet earth, mulch, rotting leaves. Love its chewy and upfront impact on the palate. Very complex and very drinkable — 7 years ago
‘Las Alturas' Spanish for 'the heights', a fitting name, this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. 4th gen Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner from family with farming & winemaking roots in Napa since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across). Nice berry and floral spice aromas. Rich cherry/plum flavors with oak, spice and vanilla. Long finish, bold ending with sweet oak notes. Very Nice! A Fav! — 2 years ago
Dark fruits and well balanced tannins highlight this excellent wine. More in the medium to full body Pinot noir‘s which I prefer — 4 years ago
Deep roots of Beaulieu were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. A blend of 78% Cab Sauv, 11% Merlot, 3% of Cab Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice scents. On the palate blackberry and currants, spicy notes on full soft ripe tannins, nice mouthfeel, long finish ending with fruit, oak and earthy mineral character. — 4 years ago
Even in the Rhone Valley, Rhone blends don’t get any better than this. Heck, very few California wines get better than this! Sitting on a thousand foot deep (at least!) layer cake of limestone and Miocene sea sediments, the Law vineyards produce some of the most deliciously calcaire wines I’ve ever tasted. Absolute bliss to drink.
On the nose: oregano, mint, and 300-year-old books bound in old leather on the nose. Thick cassis fruit and a hint of eucalyptus on the front. Fruity but not jammy! After the foretaste, this wine is held together with soft limestone tannins. The mid-palate is full of mineral high notes underlaid by fifty-million years of plate tectonics. You’re drinking geologic history here as selectively interpreted by Syrah and Grenache grapes! It’s as if you’re tasting what the grape roots are tasting! Not a particularly long finish, but all the same it’s extremely satisfying. Again with the mineral high notes plus eucalyptus, but they’re all balanced by a cool minty soothingness at the back of the throat. Absolutely lovely! — 5 years ago
Keltaluumuisen makuinen, puolikuiva tai jopa vähän makeahko. Oikein maukas!! — 6 years ago

Very dark. Needs to breathe, then very good. — 3 years ago
One the nose: vanilla, nutmeg, black cherry and tobacco.
Taste: red fruits, oak finish.
Good with or without food — 4 years ago
As the name suggests... Deep. A raspberry nose, but on the palate, all the black fruit emerge... Blackberry, current, black cherry, more raspberry... Some syrupy tartness, but this is elegant and balanced... Eucalyptus, some graphite? Big fruit dominates though. The finish is a tad cloying but long... A lot of fruit in this package. — 5 years ago

Pretty much the gold standard in Pinot. Bought a half case of this from Vinopolis in Portland and wished I’d bought a full one. The Deep Roots Coalition back label reminds me of the way Cayuse vines have to grow deep roots. Somehow the best wines come from grapes that vines that have to struggle. Burgundy, eat your heart out! — 6 years ago
Pleasant aroma, fruity on the tongue with a dry finish. — 6 years ago
The community of Saint-Estèphe has it roots in the Gallo-Roman origins of this chateau. A blend of 78% Cab Sauv, 20% Merlot & 2% Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby with aromas of dense sweet black fruits with herb and earthy spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry, currant like, with tobacco, tar and hints of vanilla exposing mushroom notes. Well balanced, ripe textured tannins, long finish ending with earthy character. Nice, has plenty of room to develop. — 7 years ago
