I didn’t take any notes on this one, but it stood out for its full throttle intensity, married to supreme elegance, with a textured mouthfeel. Long, resonant finish. First try with this bottling, and I would have purchased two additional cases had I known how brilliant it is. Will back up the truck next year. Thicker than 2021, but just as lifted. A Kabinett of light and air, with enough density to carry you. The acidity was joy itself. The mouthfeel was silk in motion. There's something about the 2023s, they have more breadth, more echo. Like the 21s got stretched sideways in all the right ways.
I didn't take notes. I just sat there. And felt better after a brutal day. Because sometimes, at the end of a brutal day, all you need is a Steinmetz Kabinett to remind you that life still has sweetness. — 9 months ago

Beautiful wine - a blend of grapes so obscure the index of Jancis Robinson’s “Wine Grapes” reference will provide clues to only one of them. Highly aromatic - dried herbs & licorice - and a sweet sappy core. Cherry liqueur, buttressing acidity, medium finish. Good structure and balance. Lovely work. — 3 years ago

Nose: tropical flowers. Very pretty. Confectionary. Apricot flower. So fine.

Palate: mineral. Confectionery. Super elegant apricots. Wow. Rainwater. So so filigreed. Not a normal sweet fruity auslese. Wow. What a masterpiece.

Auslese is normally viscous. This is so fine. Such a distinctive style. You get the weight of prim but more elegant and more interesting and diverse fruit. More tropical. Wow.

Finish is rainwater infused apricots.

Awesome now. Magic. Creamy and rich. Gorgeous slate aromas. Apple pie. Phyllo dough. Clean as clean can be botrytis. Saffron. So complex and refined. White pepper and a hint of sweet wild mint. Enormously complex aromas. Palate is ripe, creamy and so finesse driven. Salty and fresh with very good buffering acidity. Rich and baroque. Terrific inner mouth aromas. Enormous concentration and freshness but my goodness is this refined. Long finish finish that has that foie gras element that I adore in Mosel Auslese. A superb wine. Will track it as opens.

After a few hours, wowza. Nose is more fruit driven with pineapple and papaya. So refined. Palate is stunning. Layered and energetic but also hedonistic while also displaying the classic nimbleness of Classic Mosel Auslese. 9.6 to 9.7. Stunning. — 4 years ago

Nose: just an overwhelming feeling of freshness. Yellow flowers. Much more dense as this opens. Penetrating.

Palate: sweet minerals. Utterly delicious. Stone fruits. Pure mountain stream. More dense as it opens. Succulent. Juicy. Amazing.

There is a perfection about this. Terrific balance.

Wow. Love these. Wow is that mineral. Stunning mineral depth. Just dizzying. Amazing. Tree bark. Citrus rind. Almost a crystalline purity. Again, so airy like a scene in nature. Super complex nose. Maybe a 9.8. Wow, that is insane. That’s a 9.8 palate. It’s ripe but so crystalline and pure. Focused and nimble. Insane concentration and purity. Dancing pitter patter of acid. So so delicate. Finish is just insane and insane. Early season apricot. Mirabelle plum. Wow. Cleansing acids. Not painful and gently caressing. Gorgeously poignant mineral nose. Lemon, lemon flower. Closed but it’s all there. Direct mineral essence that goes straight up your nose. Yellow flowers, wild mint, melon, green possibly orange. Wow the mint, Really intense and expansive. Palate is so silky and my goodness what a mineral explosion. Round and yet so mineral. Wow. This is mindblowing. So juicy and compact. Amazing, wine of the collection mouthfeel and a finish that just keeps pumping the most intense and mouth caressing minerals. The nose is such a round, mineral bomb. Omg the fruit is coming out. Tangelo, red grapefruit, kumquat. Not a loud wine but a serene, gentle wine that has not one hair out of place. This is becoming the signature wine of the estate. 19/21/22 all perfect or near perfect wines. Wow what a silky texture and just perfect balance. Salty finish. Let’s see what air does. Sensational. As this opens the nose becomes crazy confectionary. The palate is silky, textured, dense and superbly balanced and pure but seems to be closing. But what a finish. — 3 years ago

A stunning bottle of Mosel Pinot. Deep, penetrating nose of dark cherry, slate, moss, mid season cherry, black cherry and some blackberry flower. Tree bark and such complexity. Has more to tell that is for sure. Wild mint starts to develop. Palate is deep and structured with amazing sap and density and Grand Cru grip and structure. Pure, balanced and lovely black and red cherries with velvety tannins that are perfectly ripe. So pure and so deep. Incredible length and sap. Finish is a mineral wash and accented with blackberries and darker red cherries. This is young but very promising. So long and such well defined fruit. — 4 years ago

Just as classic as it gets. A stunningly beautiful bottle of Spätlese. Nose is slate city. Green apple. Peach. Rainwater. Rubber. Lemon. Lime. So clean. Super juicy and clean but not over the top concentrated. Everything is in its little perfect place. Welcome to the Dollhouse 2 - Spätlese. (Don’t Google what that movie is about!). Its soaring aromas are mimicked on the palate with a soaring bit sublime perfection. This is not a dense, crazy wine, it’s a a perfect feather of a wine. This is what Spätlese used to be. Nose gets apple juice like with air but man if only apple juice smelled like this and not whatever the hell it smells like now. Lovely mid palate and just perfect but not aggressive acidity. My goodness this is clean and beautiful and just perfect for what it is. — 4 years ago
