My boy @ADAM STROMFELD turns 50 years young... what better way to celebrate than with some 50 year old burgundy? Thanks @Frank for gifting this gem and thanks Adam for sharing. Amazingly elegant and youthful at this point; actually gets better with 20mins of air. Bright plum and prune fruit along with some damp forest notes. Just a hint of band-aide. — 6 years ago
Winery located in Alba, the Piedmont region was founded by its namesake in 1881. Great Grandson, Pio Boffa, continues the tradition of innovative wine making. ‘12 was a difficult but PC did well. Aromas of fresh dark berry fruits & herb notes. Cherry, plum and minty flavors, some licorice and cacao, well balanced with young tannins. Complex lingering finish ending with nice earthy notes. Enjoyable now but needs more time. — 8 years ago
A weird bit of lacquer and heat on the nose, which mostly blows off and settles down to more classic cab notes. Was a bit better with food. Has mostly dark cassis fruit, still some dry tannins on the finish, good acidity and some oak feels yet unresolved. These drink beautifully young. Maybe still in a rough patch. — 8 years ago
Tasted blind. Ruby color. Almost opaque. Young fruit forward nose. Notes of plums, mocha, dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon and some exotic thing like eucalyptus. So rich and vibrant in the mouth. A forever finish. This wine took us in all directions. Immortal. Stan's 60th will always be remembered for the 45 Latour vs 45 Mouton mano y mano battle. A wine life moment for sure. — 8 years ago
Light yellow with nice bubbles but the nose suffers from some sort of taint which came and went frequently. Debated if it was corked. Still young but hard to evaluate. Need to try another bottle. — 9 years ago
2001 vintage. Lovely youthful notes here. Still way too young. Plummy and mixed berries, some smokey oak, mulberries. On the palate, medium body, tannins are well integrated, hints of black pepper and nutmeg. White chocolate. Yummy despite its youthfulness. Open in 2025. — 10 years ago
Too young and not giving up much right now. Lots of potential but some red fruits and wood most prevalent. — 11 years ago
Clear, still, no sediment, straw colored. Crisp citrus, apple, pear with slate and a hint of petrol. Fruity with some residual sugar and good acidity. Well-balanced, but young. It will shine in another 8-10 years. — 6 years ago
This had some funk to it.. very anti-Aussie in its approach. Shiraz/Mataro blend with a zippy, fresh quality to it. Slightly chilled, this’d be good. — 7 years ago
Good, but maybe not up to the hype. Probably just too young and the bottle open too long at the bar. Nice complexity in the flavors but finish a bit meh. Some cocoa, mint, olive. Deep colors and smooth but overall feeling was thin and missing a middle. Definitely enough tannins and acidity to wonder what it will be like in a few years, but this is a crap business lounge and I don't want my flight delayed that long... — 8 years ago
Very nice- drank too young. Probably an excellent wine with some age. Will try again. — 8 years ago
I was so excited to open this 2006 Leoville Barton. The color was ruby red and dark crimson. Almost black. It opened very hot with just a short decant. The nose showed amazing cherry, raspberry, cocoa and coffee notes. On the palate the tannins are very evident. There are obvious dark berries and even some earthy vegetables and tobacco. Over the course of 2hrs it really came into its own and showed its meddle. This is a great wine and, in my opinion, a great value. While a bit young, this wine a still great now and will be amazing in 10 yrs. — 9 years ago
Randy Dunn does Washington. And he does it well. What I love about this is that it's the exact opposite of a Napa fruit bomb, it has aromas of Cedar, vanilla, chocolate covered strawberries, and some leather tones as it opens up in the glass. Palate is super smooth despite being young, with some herbs de Provence, leather, and sweet market cherries. Medium bodied and a perfect companion for a My Father Le Bijou 1922. — 9 years ago
Beef jerky, black olive, leather, tobacco, blueberry. Is very young, but should be amazing with some additional time in the bottle. So beefy now. — 9 years ago
Really incredible wine from some young winemakers. — 11 years ago
Young wine starting showing a good tannin and structure with some light pepper and meaty notes thanks to the 16 months spent in oak — 11 years ago
D6. Young. Very young. Even though it was decanted and frequently agitated, this one didn't come out to play until almost 2 hr after opening. Nose of Bing cherry and mint. Some red clay must. The entry is very acidic. Black cherry hint but Bing cherry backbone. Herbal middle. Started to show terroir-driven notes to the finish. Youthful and tight tannin. LOTS of life ahead. Be in NO HURRY to drink this one. I'd say optimal drinking time 5 to 10 years. — 6 years ago
Served Friday night with my Veal Bolognese. This only worked with this dish because it had enough time in bottle to soften and not overpower the dish. If this was served young with this dish, you would have mostly tasted only dark and rugged Nebbiolo tannins.
This was vacuum sealed and re-stored to allow me to write notes today as we had friends for dinner on Friday.
The reveals; blackberries, dark sweet and sour cherries, soft floral blueberries, cherries, black plum and hints of back raspberries, notes of cooked rhubarb on the glass edge, soft, dark tarry notes, leather, anise, whiff of graphite, limestone minerals, dark rich earth, dry brush, some dark spice, cedar, light bay leaf and herbaceous notes with dark fresh & withering florals and violets.
The body is near full but, not quite. The tannins have rounded and softened but, still have teeth and slightly, sticky tarriness. The structure and tension are just approaching a really good phase. Tannins show some velvetiness. The length and balance show beauty and elegance. This wine has 10–15 of good drinking ahead. Ripe; blackberries, dark sweet and sour cherries, soft floral blueberries, cherries, black plum, plum and hints of back raspberries, notes of cooked rhubarb on the glass edge. Dark tarry notes, leather, anise, graphite, limestone minerals, dry crushed rock powder, dark rich earth, dry brush, dark chocolate, some bold dark spice with palate heat, clove, nutmeg, very light vanillin notes, cedar, light bay leaf and herbaceous notes with blue flowers, dark fresh & withering florals and violets. Beautiful wine. The acidity is like a gentle rain shower. The finish is elegant, well balanced, floral and persists for minutes.
Photos of; Bartolo Mascarello, Maria Teresa Mascarello who run the business since her father’s passing in 2005, my Veal Bolognese made in the lighter style that is indicative of true Italian cooking and one of their beautiful hillside vineyards. — 6 years ago
Too young. Only started to open up after a few hours. Disappointing at first but this has some potential. Definitely put it away in the cellar for 5-10 years. — 8 years ago
Darker than normal styles for a CDN but we are on a prestigious holding of Morey St Denis and this is full fruited still young mind elegant acidity zipping around some forrest notes however a lot of potential when it calms down in a few years but Dujac is a legend for all the tasty reasons. — 9 years ago
Light oak. Stone fruits. Young. Revisited this 3/21. Much better. Some nice weight to this. Definitely stronger hints of peach. Still very fresh and crisp. — 10 years ago
Mmm. Chocolate dipped prune with a fine tannin and a smokiness that is a bit wierd good. — 11 years ago
Young, but showing some good signs — 11 years ago

Nice and surprisingly approachable for such a young Howell Mountain Cabernet. Bright cherry with some sage and thyme. — 6 years ago
