Fourth time tasting Lapierre in 2017. I've got a bit of a cold so I'm not enjoying this one as the previous ones. The nose is still a cherry bomb and bears a violet stamp. The palate is still very well balanced with a strong acid backbone, lots of ripe cherry all over the place, some grip, some width. This has beautiful aromas of plums , dark cherries and pepper plus maybe a little cedar. All of that exploded in your mouth with touches of tobacco, leather, ripe dark fruits and a bit of licorice that mix with wonderful tannins and dance a ballet in your mouth. Smooth and sexy finish. I can't wait to revisit the 2010 in five to seven years to see how it develops. — 10 years ago

Was apprehensive at first as last time I had this (a year ago with Big Wave Dave) it was the cliche Oz Shiraz fruit bomb with high alcohol bordering on over extraction. On the second outing a lot more complex. Still classic cassis fruit and choc/tobacco overtones but not over the top and with some nice acidity still. Less spice than typical. Nice underlying tannin backbone. Lovely mouthfeel and medium body and finish. A little time has done its work nicely. — 10 years ago

At this price point, this is about as good a California Cabernet that you can get. These ladies have produced a gorgeous rich and unique blend of chocolate and blackberry that has no rough edges.
