Delicate but not dainty, pretty, sexy with musky undertones. Perfumed. Black cherry, red currants, dried orange potpourri, clove, sassafras (in the alcohol), fruit leather, thyme. Barbaresco-esque, loads of dried florals and potpourri, high acid but not with the young Nebb astringency. Shroom and sous bois comes with last pour of course. Enjoyed with a 30-day aged ribeye and side of: chanterelle, shiitake mushrooms. Not your typical Suckling Brunello. — 5 years ago
Hard poured this inky octopus to a pattern-bald, latte-afro pate with dancing nematode swirls in space riffs. Sticky cellulite ‘lacing’ painting the glass with stain-stars. Black. Burnt baklava aromas, maple char, black chocolates with windowsill mint, malty dark caramel, baked aromas. Coffee and resinous chocolate, baked maple syrup, poppy torts, rye bread with dark caramel, baked chocolate with ganache for a sleepover, Thai coffee reduction, treacle, a sweet black pepper and sassafras and dark rum sprouting fresh vanilla bean. Intensely variegated, layered, concentrated. The Dagwood of imperial stouts. Piled 6 feet high, enjoy with a friend, horizontally. .

Wow! This was drinking splendidly at nearly 10. Layers of dark red fruit like cassis and ripe blackberry on laters of sweet herbs like sassafras on enough acidity to keep things lively. — 6 years ago
Pillow Rd. Vineyard is situated to the southwest of Sebastopol, not far from the southern tip of the Russian River Valley, and planted to two acres of Chardonnay and seven acres of Pinot Noir. Clones 777, 115, and Pommard made up the first plantings in 2000, with Calera and Swan being added later (replacing Gravenstein apple trees). The vineyard has courted her fair share of suitors, originally being one of Duckhorn’s sources for its Goldeneye Pinot Noir. The first commercial vintage under the Pillow Rd. label was 2006. I’m not sure whether Ladera had entered the scene at that point, but it was definitely in time for their release of the 2009 vintage. In 2016 PlumpJack Group acquired Ladera’s Howell Mountain vineyard and winemaking facility, and while it appears the Pillow Rd. Vineyard wasn’t included in that sale, I haven’t seen anything that spells that out explicitly. Regardless, what is certain is that Napa Cab makers can’t quit this Russian River Pinot vineyard. It had some kinks to work out, but ultimately it’s built for pleasure and not complexity, and it eventually got there. Cherry cola, sassafras, baking spice, butterscotch, and just enough of a citrus edge to keep from losing its balance. — 7 years ago
Lemon zest, bing cherry, toasted croissant, hazelnut, sassafras, chalk. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. — 8 years ago
Sadly Jacques’s last vintage. Mondeuse, Gamay, Pinot. Beautifully natural, vibrant, supple. Brambly, black cherry, raspberry pepper, forest fruits, alpine strawberries, bright, concentrated, glugable, but nice tertiary notes of sweet tobacco, sassafras, sous bois. Very pretty and feminine. Could cozy up to this every day. 12.3% — 4 years ago
Tonight I have opened the 2012 Evening Land Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir. It has been five years since the last time I had this wine, so here goes.
On the nose there is strawberry, cherry, raspberry, clove, rhubarb, vanilla, black olive, rose petals, light oak and earth.
On the palate there is strawberry, tart cherry, raspberry, sassafras, clove, vanilla, mushroom, rose petals, rhubarb and earth.
This wine is medium bodied and is as fresh today as it was when I had it five years ago. It has medium to medium + acidity and medium fine tannins that lead seamlessly into a medium to long tart fruit finish. Still a wonderful wine and I don't see this slowing down any. I have a few more in my wine room and I look forward to trying this again a few years from now. I hope everyone is still doing well? Now that they are starting to relax on the stay home policies please stay healthy and stay safe. Nostrovia! Q🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
Interesting spicy nose: sassafras, cinnamon, dried thyme, garrigue, anise, wild berries
Palate of root beer, licorice, dried green herbs, and dark berries. Tannins are a bit drying and astringent.
A bit lighter than the other CdPs we had in our tasting, but nice complexity and very food friendly. — 6 years ago
This is a great bottle of Burgundy, and shows the winemaking strength I think. Black cherry, unripe tart strawberry, cloves, sassafras, plenty of sous bois funk already, but in balance. I think this will be a glorious, funky example of hallmark Burgundy in 20 years! — 8 years ago

Monday night and winter is tearing through our area. I have tonight opened the 2017 Domaine Drouhin Dundee Hills Pinot Noir.
On the nose I am getting aromas of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, mushroom, spice and earth.
On the palate there is tart cherey, raspberry, cranberry, sassafras, spice and forest floor.
This wine is medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + sandy tannins which leaves a long red & dark fruit finish. Having had the Joseph Drouhin the other night and the Domaine Drouhin tonight the Joseph Drouhin was just more elegant over all. I hope everyone's Valentine weekend was good. Have a great week, stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 4 years ago
