“Ruit Hora” is a line of poetry from the Odi Barbare collection of poems by Giosue Carducci and translates to “The Hour Hastens.” A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cab Sauv, 5% Petit Verdot & 5% Syrah. Aromas of dark fruits and pleasant noticeable spice. On the palate blackberry and sweet cherry, cacao and vanilla flavors. Nicely balanced, soft tannins, opened quickly, lingering ending with fruit and gentle smoky oak. — 6 years ago
Soft, round, fruity. Made by excellent dudes who really care about their product. — 7 years ago
Medium to full bodied and well made in a good vintage from vines planted in 1885 from the Ebenezer sub district of Barossa Valley. Drinking my Barossa Reds in what passes for Winter in Australia this year. Difficult to drink these big Reds in a Queensland summer. I am dreading summer later in the year. Rich ripe and predictable - But it is pretty delicious. I feel Sami-ODI gets more complexity and interest into their Reds than most. — 8 years ago

2007: youthful freshness, delicious lemony fruittones with first signs of maturation, balanced and very pleasant. Drink 2020-25. Enjoyed with Sami & Meri with Kantabrian pork stew. — 10 years ago
Thank you for having us @Fraser McKinley. Absolute legend. — 6 years ago
Annual Man Cave dinner. 80+ wines accompanied by zebra, oryx, buffalo, bison and any other African meat you can imagine.
I bought some of these earlier this year but have been holding them. Luckily, someone brought a bottle so that I could check in on them. The nose on this blew me away...reminded me of a Sami-Odi wine in the way it was heavy, without being overbearing. Floral (violets, lavender) but also fruit (ripe, fresh squeezed blackberries) and smoked meat (mainly peppered strip). Love the low ABV (<13%). This is likely best enjoyed over the next 5 years. Wonderful bottle from @Arden Barnett . — 7 years ago
2008 Sami-Odi 'Hoffmann Dallwitz' MCMXII Syrah
Sourced from 94 vines, planted between 1888 & 1912.
Harvested 14th March 2008.
Yields of 32 hectolitres per hectare.
388 Bottles filled.
Label: ‘Villie-Morgon’ postcard;
Image sourced Paris 2008. A special treat from my friends @chuck_gudas in conspiracy with @fraser_mckinley, a rare treat of an early Sami-Odi offering. We decanted this wine for several hours, and then re-visited 24 hours later, and the wine continued to evolve and improve. Explosive nose of freshly baked cherry pie. More bright red fruits on the palate with a brambley undertone, and soft silky tannins. Wonderful mouth feel with a long, lingering finish. Thank you Chuck and Fraser! — 8 years ago
2015 Little Wine is anything but. Berry and spice with subtle silky tannins. There's a finesse to this wine that just makes me keep coming back for more. A big wine that's light on its feet. 4 hour decant, the wine improves with air and changes over the course of the evening. — 8 years ago
Blend of three grapes (Sami in Georgian) Alexandreuli, Saperavi and Merlot. Fantastic. — 11 years ago
Tasted twice. Very Nice! — 6 years ago
Whoa mama! I think I might have found a near-rival to the Sami-Odi. Emphasis is on 'near.' This wine has POWER. Next to a 2012 Lillian, it just seemed to have more going on. This one in my opinion does not go to the savory meaty side, and is maybe a little bit more to the fruit side. Powerful black fruit, baking spices, nutmeg, caramel apple, plums, hint of grilled meat that I was getting more on the finish. Also quite peppery on the finish. Really nice. This one could probably be cellared for another decade at a minimum, but a really nice wine opened tonight! — 6 years ago
With Sami Ghosn from Massaya, enjoying his great Colombier — 8 years ago
2013 vintage. One of the new wave of Artisan winemakers like our Delectable mate Fraser from Sami-Odi. Fresh juicy and funky. Just enough whole bunch acidity without over doing it. Silky but not delivering enough of the ripe fruit Grenache characters that one gets from old school old vine Grenache in The Vale. — 9 years ago
Powerful but with grace. Typical 2012 Barossa. Mr John Duval has producer a good wine. Structure, deep core fruit. Needs time, slightly closed. Purple dark inky colour. Plum, blackcurrant and vanilla are prominent. Chocolate with great acidity. Length of flavour falls short for me . I don't think this is in the same league as Standish or Sami Odi. Lacked X-factor. Cellar for 10+ years. 92 points. — 10 years ago

The most structured Sami Odi I’ve tasted. Great density and complexity with plenty of fruit and the consistently seductive nose I’ve found with these wines. Really appealing stuff here. — 5 years ago
