An old vine, rich nose. Bold, dark fruit with balanced tannin. Deep flavors make you think of romance and the meaning of life. — 7 years ago
Staycation 2018 @CAA ; Josie is upstairs FREAKING OUT and we enjoyed ridiculously good mussels in a lobster curry broth, caesar salad, pork + halibut. Solid night for romance, per Danny. As for the wine, not as dry as AUS SBs, though light fruit with a quick finish. Easy to drink and would have again. Now to finish so we can eat affogato and return to Josie before she dies of a heart attack (that old dog does *not* like change) — 7 years ago
Wow and wow just wow. Indicative of this lustrious region. This wine was bright, it was confident, it was unpretentious yet elegant, balanced, beautiful. The nose spoke immediately with a story of its origin. White flowers, subtle apricot, Spanish romance. This is it my friends. Paired with my ceviche like a boss. This is life my friends. If you’re lucky enough to find a bottle and enjoy with a great friend, well then, you’re lucky enough. Cheers. — 7 years ago
Fin frukt. Har bra tropisk frukt med vuxen skalbeska. Undertoner av mineralitet. Som en perfekt italiensk bitter cocktaildrink en varm sommardag. Extra poäng för det ogenerade namnet. — 8 years ago
Almost 2 yrs ago I wrote: "Half way through a case and the romance deepens. Giant scorched earth and oiled leather nose. Epic battle of extracted dark-red fruit sweetness and a light juicy acidity. All in a smooth-as-silk package. Ageing so gracefully, 10+ years from peaking." After last night I'll add: probably peaked after 2 hr decant, no need to wait but this has the tannins and pure extracted fruit to take it at least 10 more years. — 9 years ago
Sanlúcar de Barrameda was the port that Christopher Columbus set off from in 1492. Just 1 year earlier, duties on wine exports from Sanlúcar had been abolished to take advantage of English merchants desperate for new supply after the loss of Bordeaux.
It began a centuries-long romance between Sherry and English wine lovers, as immortalized in Shakespeare's Henry IV Part 2, when Falstaff glorifies sturdy Spanish 'sack' over thin Bordeaux 'claret' and Rhine 'hock'.
But the honeymoon, quite literally, was not to last. Henry VIII's divorce from Catherine of Aragon drove a wedge between England and Catholic Europe, and left English wine lovers in need of a new source once again. But Sherry fanatics wouldn't have to go entirely without. When Sir Francis Drake sailed into Cádiz and burned the Spanish fleet in 1587, he carried away 2,900 butts of Sherry - enough to supply London for years - as his most famous prize.

1999 Sine Qua Non “Ox” Pinot Noir from the wonderful Shea Vineyard in Yamhill County, Oregon. 14% alcohol. I’ve always loved the simple label on this gigantic bottle with the cavernous punt. And I was all ready to wax poetic about the romance of opening one of these older SQNs as, based on a couple of recent tastings, I was told that this bottle is well over the hill. Well, that just ain’t so. At least not with this bottle which has been lovingly stored since release. Now I’m not going to try and convince you that the “Ox” is at its peak, but the old girl still has some tricks up her sleeve. Crystal clear, bright, medium garnet appearance. A little bricky on the edges. Smokey notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, truffles and clove on the nose. Quite vibrant palate of sweet strawberries and cola as well as spice box with a hint of vanilla, toast and that clove. A touch earthy. Nice acidity. Super silky mouthfeel. Short, but decent smokey finish with a bite reminiscent of Sweet Tarts candy. Tangy! Extremely enjoyable! Well made is well made. Chapeau Mr. Krankl! — 8 years ago

Clean and bright with an early rouch of kero on the nose. Zingy mouthfeel that is fully in balance with a succulent limey flavour. This is twiddling that any B drinker would love...and soonforget their former romance. Love! — 9 years ago
Ripe summer flowers. Mossy salt rock. Champagne kind of. Fairy romance. Tart and deep. Somehow sterile. — 6 years ago
A blend of 76% Cab Sauv, 12% Cab Franc, 6% Petite Verdot, 3% Malbec & 3% Syrah from Stagecoach Vineyards on Pritchard Hill. About 70 cases produced. Deep red color with aromas of dark ripe fruit with hints of floral spices. The palate shows rioe dark berry fruit tastes with cinnamon spice, sweet oak and cacao. Well integrated with fine structured tannins, the wine is complex and enjoyable, very soft. Good length ending with subtle oak. — 7 years ago
