Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne 2008

A tad off. Better to have let it sit another 10. This champagne is so lovely when it gets dense. Tight small bubbles but not as sweet as normal. Might have just been a bad bottled. — 2 days ago

Éxilé Rosé Pétillant Gamay

Salmon pink in the glass. A vibrant periwinkle.

Hay and strawberries, creamsicle, saffron milk.

Super gamay. White cherries, dark fruit, cassis, and mineral. Even a bit bready on the afternote.

Idiosyncratic and lovely.

Languedoc Syrah Grenache 2015

Deep ruby in color; prunes, black cherries, and mushrooms on the nose; medium acidity; medium tannins; tastes like stewed plums, overripe blackberries, and wet gravel with a long finish. Tastes like there was a little Brettanomyces during the fermentation. Not enough to get a barnyard flavor or smell, but enough to make it earthy and mushroom-y. It's good, but not my favorite. A very interesting wine.

After some time in the glass, it has developed aromas of chocolate, prunes, and dried herbs. It tastes like cloves and cherries. The other flavors and aromas are so there, but more in balance now. Adding another point to my score.

Brut Rosé Champagne Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Fresh with excellent body and a wild, herbaceous woodsiness. Decidedly different, yet appreciated as such. The 2015 is Rembrandt. This 2018 is Picasso. 4.20.24. — a month ago

Prestige Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2013

What I didn’t realize until this week is when I bought this 2013, Sofia & I tasted this with Roger in his cellar before it received the label shown in this post in 2015.

This was $25 on release and it is beautiful tonight as it was last weekend.

Ripe, juicy; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, purple fruits, blueberries & some dark cherries. Grilled meats, light black pepper, dry galet stones, spice, dry top soil, dry tobacco, used leather, slightly moist volcanic mineral mixed w/ clay, sandalwood, dry & withering dark, red & purple florals, rainfall acidity, a well balanced, nicely structured, beautifully tensioned, balanced, elegant finish that last two-minutes and lands on minerality and florals.

Photos that Sofia & I took in 2015, wood vats, my backside looking at cement tanks, estate vineyard and their facility building.

Having had many of Roger’s wines over the last 10 years (including a few vintages of Secrets), I feel the Prestige is the best value. Lovely wines.
