Purlieu

Purlieu

Martinez Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

One-dimensional but very well made Cabernet Sauvignon. Smooth and elegant with tannins that are perfectly smooth and enjoyable in the finish. A little boring and unsurprising but I cannot complain about the high quality, smooth palette, and fragrant nose on this polished Cabernet Sauvignon. Expensive at $95 but worth its price. — 7 months ago

Le Pich

Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2017

This is Purlieu’s sister winery. We were the second tasting given in their new facilities just on the edge of Napa as you approach from American Canyon.

We started our visit with a splash of their 17 Sauvignon Blanc as we toured their new facilities.

A hybrid of tropical & dry style. It has understated tropicals of mango, pineapple, white citrus, peach, cut grass, round acidity and nicely polished finish.

Photos of, their lobby, labels of the assorted different producers that make their wines there and their tasting bar.

For those of you not familiar with Le Pich, I took this from their site...Le Pich, which is the Wappo Indian term for "golden eagle," is the sister label of Napa Valley's esteemed Purlieu Wines. The wines are crafted by rising star winemaker Julien Fayard. Originally from France, Julien has lived in the Napa Valley since 2006, when he and his wife agreed to settle down by “meeting halfway” — between his home in France… and hers in Sonoma. In France, Julien worked in both Provence and Bordeaux, where he defined his core winemaking style at the exalted first growth Château Lafite-Rothschild (he even lived in Lafite’s grand château for a period) as well as at Smith Haut Lafitte. In Napa, Julien worked at Quintessa before joining Atelier Melka, where he spent five years as the Director of Winemaking. He has worked with the likes of Lail Vineyards, Gemstone, Dalla Valle, and more and his Le Pich wines are some of the best values we've found in Napa Valley.

JL Purlieu tasting 6/16/17. ABV 15.5%. Oakville. $160. #6. nose that's like others but with a hint of gaminess and balanced by fruit and sweetness. Palate that's very fruit forward and dark chocolate and very velvety and silky with kind balanced complex finish. Quite delicious. This is best of the bunch especially how it's relatively priced to the others. — 7 years ago

Récoltant Wines

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Winery $60.00, but most retailers had it for $30.00🤷🏼‍♂️ fruit forward but not as bad as caymus or Austin hope
Notes from retail,,

Recoltant is the younger brother to Le Pich and Purlieu, and the wine is produced by Julien Fayard, who is absolutely at the top of his game.

Recoltant is a collaboration of declassified barrels of premium Cabernet that didn’t quite fit into Le Pich or Purlieu. The final blend was stitched together from several celebrated regions throughout Napa Valley, and Julian made the wine with the same standards of excellence that he practices in all of his projects.

Love this in the 2010 and earlier vintage and compared to the ones mentioned hard to disagree but still think Macaulay can produce good wine

Ya buddy!!! @Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher i've said it before but i agree with you on the style of the whites. The beckstoffers and single vineyard cabs rock it. The blends are usually solid.
