K&L notes as follows, Grand Pontet is an interesting property, positioned in the neighborhood of other stars of the appellation such as Châteaux Canon, Beau-Séjour-Bécot and Clos Fourtet. It is, however, a small estate, a mere 14 hectares, and its prices are much better than some of its more prestigious neighbors. In 1980 it was purchased by Gerard and Dominique Bécot, owners of the neighboring Beau-Séjour-Bécot. They have applied the same high standards to both Châteaux in their possession, and their winemaking team crafts Grand Pontet alongside the Beau-Séjour-Bécot wines. Recently purchased in 2021 by Domaines Clarence Dillon (Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, et al.), the property was combined with and incorporated into Château Quintus. Full-bodied and luscious, this Grand Pontet is laden with ripe blackberry fruits, savory tobacco, licorice notes, and ripe, softened tannins. It’s seamless and bold, not shy. It’s going to require something decadent to pair with, such as filet mignon or some other black-tie dish with plenty of flavor and rich umami presence. — 2 years ago
Lovely light melon notes, with balancing lemon pith. This is a slightly richer white grape than the other neighborhood white (Arneis), with no trailing bitter notes, but still not “tropical” in my book. It’s just good stuff, minimal oak, easy-drinking. Eataly Dallas — 3 years ago
Part 2 of grocery store adventures… lemon pith, hay, tart white peach, cantaloupe, orange blossom on the nose. On the palate lemonade and tangerine pith, white peach, hints of lemongrass and basil and a touch of saline with a nice viscous body and a medium finish. Impressive value for a budget buy from my neighborhood Giant. Probably would go well with seafood, salads, and light tangy cheeses (or faux-cheeses ;) ) — a year ago
In 1879, 2 brothers decided to set up a wine business, C.V.N.E., Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cuné, as it is commonly known in Haro, created and still kept in traditional neighborhood of Haro station today. Deep Ruby with ripe berry aromas/complex spices, 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo. Palate shows blackberry, cherry, sweet currant with herb, leather, oak & pepper spice. Fine tannins, well balanced good depth & structure, long finish, nice value! — 3 years ago
Good wine. Very round and smooth. Fruity. Found from my neighborhood wine guy for $28. — 2 years ago
